And you know this how? I have a friend (a dentist) who fucked about with some bolts on his Blade about ten years ago whilst it was under warranty. He/the bike crashed on the A19. He broke his leg, ankle, arm and ribs. He couldn't work for months. He didn't get anything back from his insurance either for the bike or for cover to his work (locum/salary) as he'd been proven to have messed with the bike whilst under warranty and the "work" done should have been done by the dealer. Fact. Of course unless you know better.
I honestly don't know. But my friend didn't get a bean because the accident investigators could prove the bolts had been "tampered" with and when checking back with the dealer it was found that they didn't touch the bike under warranty. That said the bolts on my bike have a yellow paint type marking on them to show they've been tightened by the manufacturer/dealer. Maybe it has something to do with that. I don't understand why you are seemingly reluctant to let the dealer sort it.
I just been to the dealer with the problem. Two hours of my time not including riding there and back. Can you imagine ringing up to book it in again because you'd like them to tighten some bolts on a hunch? I'd imagine the reply would more likely be 'why?' than 'yes of course sir'. I've given them a shot at diagnosing it, they've had it on the bench, ridden it and tweaked a few things so I would have to start putting a bit more pressure on them. Can't imagine it being conducive to the relationship I'm supposed to be building up.
What kind of an answer is that? If you "tamper" with your bike whilst under warranty doesn't that put you in the same "cock" category?
Mind you that was an insurance claim: written off bike (I assume), personal injury and lost earnings - a lot more money than a part on a bike + labour. I'd imagine the insurers going to much greater lengths (ie spending more money and being more invested in these things generally) to wriggle out of it than a bike company would for a minor warranty claim. Not that I intend infringing mine.
yeah I'd take money on that. If said bolt removal or change resulted in a failure, yep warramnty womnt like it, but tell me how a bolt undo redo on the areas he's talking will do that. In fact any home maintenance regime, incl tyre and oil etc, should include a bolt check especially ones which are susseptable to vibration loosening
Listen.........do what you want. It's not my bike. I couldn't give a flying fuck if you invalidate the warranty or not. I'd rather make sure that, on my bike at least, liability for errors and claims lies with professionals who have insurance to cover cock ups.
Whoa there......take it easy fella! Who changes your tyres in the warranty period? Does Ducati warrant the nuts removed and re tightened by a third party? If your not allowed to get to know your bike and tinker.....why do Ducati publish the torque figures. As long as things are to spec and not under or over done, I can't see how their crystal ball will know. Just saying ;-)
Life's to short to get upset with the internet ET. Take a chill pill, or go for a ride. Always helps me destress.
Possibly spanner check the bike make sure everything as it should be as it seems to be a uncommon issue
Right oh going to at least have a look for anything obviously not to spec. If there is I will inform the dealer to cover my arse.
If you have a torque wrench and a list of the supposed values, it is going to be quite easy to apply the wrench to a few bolts to see if they are tightened to those values. You surely won't have to undo anything. I can't see what the risk is.
I bought a brand new Daytona 675 and it was very vibey. I took it back to the dealer who found the rear wheel had not been balanced correctly. also, it could be mapping. I found my 749 to be much smoother after it had custom maps for each cylinder. Dodgy sensor? Either way, I would take it back to the most technically competent dealer in your area. Thats what warranty is for and why you pay the premium for a new bike. All I would be trying is higher grade fuel and an ECU reset, if there is such a thing on an 848.
Yeah, I have a torque wrench or two so not a problem to check against published spec Glidd. @749er: I've ruled out running gear, pull in the clutch and its smooth as silk. I'm open to suggestions re mapping etc. It'll take a more willing dealer to delve deeper - but you're right though that's what I've paid for. I'll give it a few more blasts to see if its really getting smoother or its the result of the minor TB tweak Riders did. At some point I can see me getting it on a dyno for a tweak (if that's possible) as its a bit flat around 5k. On another note there's some kind of white crap coming out of the left side vent (where the rubber hoses are) leaving residue splashes over the fairing and yesterday its started deposing more white stuff via the gap between the right air intake covers and nose fairing. I hope its not coolant related...
Could be hose come loose. Worth a quick fairing off check before you use it again, even if its just to tighten them
Is coolant white? Its kind of a chalky residue, almost like polishing compound, can't see they'd use it on this bike though. Will investigate further, though the dealers had the fairings off twice already, would expect them to notice a loose tube? What are the two rubber tubes you can see through the vent on the left? Both for the rad?
