Still have her, not advertising on the ebay/biketrader this, rather someone who 'gets' the bikes to have her. About to fit a new rear Phantom today, always fit my own, have a press etc, never messed with a 180 inner tube before, What Fun. Also ordered rear pads as the pad lining has come away from the backing which is a bit disappointing. Anyway, shes a Cat C, offers around 4500 invited, just come up over 4000 miles..
Just re-rubbered her up. I tend to get excited about new tyres like a woman does with shoes. Not too excited about the rear pads falling apart though.
Yikes! Prepare to be scared! The Phantoms were the most confidence sapping tyre I've ever used, feel skittish and track badly on rough surfaces. The only thing going for them was the retro pattern, but that may be the cause of dodgy feel as I was told they used the same compound as standard diablos. Take it easy until....well, ...until you replace them.
More likely the profile, I doubt tread pattern would effect it like that. The pilot was excellent, well just have to see. Incidentally, the phantom was on offer at M&P, they still have some left, ill give it a couple of hundred miles and I may buy a few for future fitment. I dont ride tracks and rarely exceed 80 on the roads, so, Ill see how it goes. Thanks for the input though.
2006 DUCATI GT1000 'Paul Smart' 'Sport Classic' 4000m, rare & cracking bike. | eBay Evilbayed for a week, reserve at 4500 if anyone on here is interested.
Just a couple of thoughts: Might be worth changing the title of your advert. The Paul Smart & the GT1000 are different models within the Sport Classic range. You also mention that the bike has been the subject of an insurance claim, this is likely to make people wonder if the bike was classified as a 'category write-off' such as C, or D. Some people will happily buy a Category C or D, but I suspect most would want to see this information declared in the advert.
Just uploaded pictures, 12 of, I will included that its a Cat C next time my memory reminds me of an important fact Ive forgotten. I icluded the other models in the description as they were all part of the same range of models.
I'd say they are very good. Comfortable & plenty quick enough on our roads. There is a lot you can do to modify the Sport Classics if you wish. Mine has lowered gearing (up 2 on rear sprocket), and this helps to make the bike more lively & smoother at lower speeds. I also have a rear hugger to help keep the shocks clean & a Ventura grab rail/rack for practical reasons. The OEM spoked wheels were swapped for 5-spoke Marchesinis to enable me to run tyres without inner tubes. This has reduced the unsprung weight & offers the chance to use tyre plugs in the event of a puncture. The reduction in weight also made the bike a little quicker to change direction. I also have the DP Flyscreen & the DP Termignoni kit (silencers, airbox lid & DP ECU). As I say, there is a lot you can do with them.
Now the weather is better its pretty good, Im getting over 120 to a tank, in the colder weather I was down to under 100 miles. The suspension is pretty harsh, but, I ride NON sporty stuff so I am comparing it to GS beemers and Guzzis.
My experience was that the OEM forks could be somewhat harsh on bumpy roads. Swapping the springs to Hyperpro progressive springs didn't cost too much & made quite a difference.
Sold to those chaps from the ton up garage in Portugal who will, no doubt, chop and butcher it without mercy. Cant wait to see what they do with it.
Well done on the sale of your bike, that was what you were after wasn't it? What is it your looking for once your GT1000 is gone?
Thats exactly the reserve, the guy rang from Portugal, coincidentally Id liked his page on FB a few days before, to ask the usual questions. I felt he was genuine and didnt want to bugger him about, he kept asking for a buy it now, I eventually said Id let it run, told him the reserve and said he could take a chance with the auction or make me a reserve exceeding offer and I would consider it. The bid came less than a second before the end, must have used one of those websites that bids for you? I am happy it will be appreciated, maybe a bit unhappy it will be chopped about though. It leaving our shores means it will leave its Cat C status here, which makes sense I guess. I am now in a quandry, I am pondering either a Triumph Tiger 800xc, a chum has just offered me his at the sum hes been offered trade in, its an 11 plate with 9k on it with lots of goodies. OR a Guzzi Stelvio 1200, thats what I really want but it may not be the wisest buy, there are cam issues and I know the tiger will be better on fuel along with being more nimble. I have three guzzis already. My outfit Her solo and of course MY solo............... I have 14 bikes in all but the stelvio does really make my 'Piss Fizz'
Top marks for the photos. Bikes, pretty lady, cute pooch & wheelie bin - a full house! Good luck with your next bike. Do try the Triumph, as a big chap you might want to check it has enough 'umph'?
I have tried the triumph, its not QUITE as zoopy as the Stelvio but FAR more scratchable. The shaft on the guzzi though...................... hhhmm. Also had to look through those for the wheely bin, well spotted, its from the ad when I bought it. NOT guilty!!!!
