Because... there is the music. If the music is good, the lyrics can stand being so-so. After all, it's not poetry is it? This thread inspires me to write lyrics. After all, I can barely do worse. Incidentally, any lyrics by Yes qualify. They were all pretentious garbage (and sung in a very high and annoying voice).
Wonderwall. I remember thinking it was naff at the time and 20 years have done nothing to change my view.
Boulder Boulderdash. Anderson's vocals represent an additional musical instrument within the song, with the "lyrics" mostly chosen for how they sound - it's a similar process to how the instruments and notes are chosen. If you don't understand the process, you cannot hold an informed opinion on the matter.
Is that an example of the double positive being used as a negative in English language? (And I'm still right on this point )
