Flat balsa wood cut out gliders, my favourite was the Spitfire, my brother liked the Me109. Did you have these in the UK? Went best with a bit of plasticine stuck on the nose for ballast. Can't find a picture on the net.

 

I remeber these too.

Later versions had a plastic weight you slotted on the nose
