I cannot remember ever having seen a coin slot on a radio or TV in my life. Not even on TV or the movies. the Juke box. Yes. I have seen a lot of crazy, even kids pedaling to power the TV... But they were always free. The radio was the clock radio if there was one... I am Intrigued Rex
yep, around the late 60's early 70's. We were too poor to buy even a black and white then so you hired a tv by renting it and you paid by coins in the tv and that set off a timer. The more you used it the more you paid. Radio rentals in the U.K.
No, the advantage of renting was that when it broke, which they did, often, the rental company repaired it or replaced it, inclusive to the rental fee. They would try to bring a bigger, better TV as temporary replacement whilst they repaired the one you were renting in the hope you’d want to keep it on at a higher rent rather than get the old one back. The coin box on the side was for people with dodgy credit history, or didn’t own the house they were living in.
