999 Need A New/second Hand Engine

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by NuggetNik, Oct 7, 2014.

  1. Ah ok cool - poss new engine may be way to go, especially if the whole thing needs re-building (not that I really know what's involved in that - I couldn't even do the swap bit!) Good luck with the engine(s) - CH are good peeps IMO but sounds like you can prob do most stuff yourself anyway:upyeah:

  2. Joel sent you a PM I could be interested in your mates 999R engine

  3. My engine will be out of the frame etc may be by tonight. £1200 instant fix

  4. #999Rengine - good news and bad news. We picked up his bike on Saturday and there is about £250 of damage to the R&G crash bungs and that's about it - those things are amazing - saved the bike.

The good/bad news is due to the limited damage he is going to repair it, put the road fairings back on and either keep it or sell it whole. Sorry for getting everyone's hopes up, I was sure he was going to break it. Good news for me and his mates as we really want him to get back on the track! I'll let you know if anything changes.

  5. As soon as you put the word Ducati on the service centres invoice the prices go nuts. Belt change prices amaze me. Just done my 749 and it cost me a total of £72. Dealers want over £1k which is nuts. Independent engine man is the way forward. £5k is bonkers. New bike would be cheaper!!

  6. No idea where these ludicrous prices for belt changes come from as I have never seen them. It's the valve checks which are the real pain.

  7. I would be interested to know where you bought your belts from, as I paid £113+vat for a set from Moto Rapido last year?

  8. We don't half get ripped off when you consider the belt prices. I just bought a cambelt for an Audi S4 last week £33 inc VAT!

  9. I buy them in eBay second hand. No only joking, they are made by Dayco just under £39 each but again through eBay. I've used them before, well for two seasons and they've been great - alot of the lads in the paddock use this company too. They have are Kevlar so the strength is there. I change mine every year when racing though

  10. This guy is the fella whose you tube I watched to do my belts on my 749. I also used one of his other videos to do my dd bike. To man. Great videos.

  11. Chris is a top man, which is why I have a pair of his ExactFit belts in my 999.
Although he sells them for only 100 dollars a pair in the States, shipping, tax and handling charges from Royal Mail/Customs mean they don't work out to be so much less than oem, if ordered direct.
What we need is someone to step in as an importer.

  12. Sorry for the really late reply guys. Work gets the best of me at times.

The £5K quote I got was for a lot more than belts service just to clear things up. It's widely believed that my original engine suffered from a collapsed crank bearing.
The work quoted was for approx 19 hours labour for complete strip down, new crank shaft, crank shaft bearing, all new belts, all gaskets ect.

I have gone down the road of sourcing a new engine from a fellow 999 gentleman on this forum :).
