And Ford Radiant Red...........but none of them actually match the Ducati colour. The frame colour isn't right IMO.......should be bronze on a '93. Crankcase should be silver, not black. Mirrors should be black. Yellow AGIP decal missing from the top of the tank. Later aluminium swingarm is fitted (deeper brace). Wheels in black, possibly correct.........but I'm not sure black wheels came with the bronze frame.
Ok my 2 australian cents.... Frame colour is awful. Get this changed if you really want at a later date unless you really cant live with it. I have a '1993 and the frame was bronze, until i got it done black as its a pain in the ar$e to match. My wheels are also black, not sure if thats original. Bodywork looks nice, does it really need to match the Ducati red exactly? Im sure this is not far off from the pic. Its very nice and shiney and only the Ducatisti amoung us will know the difference. I think the bodywork looks great. Exhausts look like Staintune, long time since they have been made. I think they are Australian and very well made? Sound good too. As regards the mirrors, black is standard, red looks better. It all comes down to how you feel about these non standard bits, is it for looking at or riding? Its certainly not an investment bike. I think that the price is reasonably fair considering the others you list. If it was me I would use the awful frame paint colour as a bartering tool as it definately devalues it. I too have never seen a gold one and Im a huge fan of the SS. Find out if the engines has the crank plug checked, new piston rings, new head bolts etc as at that age and milage it really should have. I personally wouldnt be bothered about service history too much as I do all servicing myself on my bikes but youll want to know when the belts and shims were last done at least. Im guessing if the bikes that much in Oz Ducati service costs will also be high. Again use as a bartering point if its needing stuff done. If someone has spent the money on the frame and paint it has probably cost a lot and had all sorts of other work done so looks like it could be a good bike. Ian
The reason why Ducati fitted black mirrors and not red ones is.......................... ..........look at the front of the SS without mirrors............. ..........clean, smooth lines around the fairing nose etc........... ..........now look at it with red sticky outy mirrors............. ......they look like ears......... .....try fitting the twin headlight fairing and it looks even worse.......... ......but as black is far less noticeable than red signals.......... IMO, anyway..........
I have one............ ....and fitted it........ .....but it looks like a scared monkey with red ears (yep, I have red mirrors too, which is how I worked my theory.....)........ ...........so now it is hanging up in my workshop roof......
Hi all, I thought I'd close the loop on this for everyone. I went and looked at it late yesterday. Positive points: It is nice and shiny and very clean, it sounds very nice and starts first kick. Not so positive points: Major repair work inside the left fairing (maybe why the frame has been done and the paint is new?) Serious corrosion pitting all around the fuel cap and surround Clutch slips and sounds awful (not the dry clutch sound, more like a tin can full of nails like the clutch basket is worn) Someone has cut the handlebars about an inch and a half shorter than original, its terrifying to ride The guy was particularly unresponsive to negotiation despite me raising all of these points. They have no history on the bike at all in relation to belts, rings, valve clearances etc etc so they would all have to be checked at significant cost as well. (Desmoquottro, your comment about high service costs in Australia is correct) I'm sure some unknowing punter off the street will buy it because its shiny and sounds good.....and they will pay top dollar for it. I'm not buying it and am still looking. Thanks everyone for your input, it was very helpful
Good man, sounds too expensive for what it is. Everything can be fixed if you are willing but that price would have to come down a fair bit. Glad you found us of some help
They should have used that frame colour to start with. Brings the bike to life in my opinion. The standard bronze is dull.
Nah.....I hate them....they look awful and they get in the way (especially if you have two and try going through a narrow gap.....) I don't mind the OEM ones (despite them now being red)................if they are tightened up enough (achieved by modifying the knuckle adjuster and the mounting points) they won't move or vibrate........ ....fortunately as a shorta*se, I can see in them quite well, by looking in them by using the gap under my arms or just a small amount of head movement.
I have a single Oberon Streetfighter mirror that uses a replacement bar end weight for mounting. However, I have it configured to sit over my right hand, where it hardly adds any width at all. I use it to fill in the blind spot directly behind. I wouldn't want to be without the oem mirrors. The bike is a 999.
Yeah you can use loctite too to make sure the screw doesnt loosen which keeps them still. Ill try bar ends and if it looks $h1t€ then Ill go back to standard red or black
I drilled and tapped the mirror stem.....M4 or M5, can't recall which unless I take them off again.......and used a proper threaded c/s socket screw instead of the OEM self tapper.....and in the actual mounts I cut new thicker full strips in stainless steel so they didn't bend or squash the plastic 'groove' in the mount.
