Touch wood I've not had this issue but a friend of mine has. Apparently Ducati know about it but as it's been just a few bikes affected they haven't issued a recall to fix it (yet) and are addressing each one as it arises.
I took mine into Ducati Croydon yesterday who were unware of any other similar issues. They checked the engine out thoroughly and found nothing of concern, but we'll keep an eye on it.
so small update on mine my issue is two fold. The oil leak on mine was result of leaking gaskets on the forward piston. Airbox was bone dry no poil However bike still lost 450ml of ooil in 1000 miles or so. Reviewing next options
Update on my leak, we'll nothing's really changed... Dealer looked at it at the annual service and wants it back in to take the horizontal cambelt cover off as he's pretty sure the leak is in there, not the hoses. He had throughly cleaned the area and you could see some dribbling down the front face of the crankcase from the opening in the belt cover. I'm now in Portugal, less than 1000 miles further on, and yesterday put about 300ml in to bring it back to the upper level. Dealer will get the bike on my return as it has to go in for the key update.
....The meandering roads of England! We have the odd mountain this side of the Severn as well you know
Since I’ve had my 1260S serviced mid summer I’ve had no oil dripping at all. All I can say is keep an eye on it, & check the oil level regularly. I do mine both cold & hot, making sure the bike is level and upright.
Enter your VIN here to see what recalls are pending on your bike. As I understand it from my dealer this is a replacement of the plastic shell with a raised rim around the button to flip out the key blade. That's all. Possibly a safety issue, mine tends to frequently open when in my pocket. I had the recall to reposition the rear indicator wiring carried out, they didn't have the key parts in stock at the time so I'll have to go back for that. They don't need the bike so I could just drop in and they'll do it there and then.
Hi everyone, I just came across this Thread and I have the same issue. new bike 1260 s, Oil coming from the airbox after each ride. The dealer confirmed it s not an over fill, but has no clue what it could be. luckily the bike is still under warranty. tbh, I find it unacceptable that a brand new bike leaks oil (4000 kms for mine) as you have more experience with this problem, could you please advise on what to do ? did you contact Ducati directly (the manufacturer)? attached a picture of the leak thanks help in advance
So my saga finally got resolved with new barrels / pistons. Initially what started the whole the leak was as above coming from the breather pipe but after inspection turned out nothing to do with airbox breather /overfil of oil but in fact the head rocker cover having a leak. This was on front piston so oil was actually running down the outside of the breather pipe. Just happens how its all positioned. With this resolved thought it was the end of it however then we noticed that oil was still being lost. Closer inspection there were signs of oil leaking out the exhaust port connection and a lot of soot on the exhaust ports. Main give away was the oil level dropping quickly within 500 miles and the oil streaks on exhaust join. This resulted in new barrels. From what I was told while same part number the casting marks were totally different. Since then no more leaks as long as keep the oil away from max level
thanks for the reply. For now im not looking that much oil, but few drops here and there after each ride.
On my MT'S it was the seal behind the central belt pulley in the V. Oil was being carried by the belts confusing the source.
