I do feel I'm being squeezed out, exactly as you describe: I'm - for the moment - hanging on to my single spark whilst trying to find a 1290 GT to test ride. Although I emailed KTM to ask them which dealers (if any) had a demo. Zero response, so I wouldn't be going to KTM for improved customer service.
I would love to know from anyone who actually saw this bike, does it have an exhaust like on the Panigale, complete with a rear stubby outlet either side, because that's how it appears to me. It looks like it has the front exhaust pipe running along the bottom left hand side of the bike to the rear muffler
No but I am aware of it....wondering / hoping if they have done something to stop it. I'm not going to spend £12.5k if it does that. It's not the 1970s any more.
Someone there has just advised on Facebook that the exhaust is a neat belly pan one, like the 899 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A lot of dealers have sold the demonstrators, or don't need one. Because this bike is selling without the need for demonstrators. Demand is outstripping supply at the moment. I had a good ride on one. Quite possibly the best front end I have ever had the pleasure of, unbelievable! Engine more interesting than DVT for me,hence my possible interest. Brakes unbelievable too.
I read its got shotguns like 1200/821 monster which might spoil it. I'm really interested in this bike but maybe too sensible with about 115bhp, although I think that motor is quite torquey so maybe enough. If its bigger than panigale for taller/older riders they could be onto a winner.
I like this bike, sort of a plug for the hole that the ST range left. It would be a great bike to replace my 848 with as the 848 has a very sporty (uncomfortable) feel but is so beautiful that I can't bring myself to part with it. I don't even mind if this new bike is 180 kgs. I will guess that I'll never own one though and the reason will be that it will be made for people with long legs. Ducati will go the way BMW did and make bikes taller and taller and eliminate us riders with short legs.
There is a guy at the event posting stuff on the SS facebook group. Same guy that confirmed the exhaust is a tidy belly pan job.
It isn't really. It's like a small ST, isn't it? But then again it is. It's called a Superspoprt, it is about 900cc, it is cheaper than the flagship model, it uses a previous generation engine (which by all accounts still shudders up to 5000rpm), it is fully faired, it has a tube frame. They would have shot themselves in the foot if they called it the ST5. You can see why they are tapping into the iconic name.
I think theyre using the sports side of the bike to keep it fashionable as opposed to touring. Supersport label is more appealing than sport tourer to someone coming off a superbike. Would like to see more pics if anyones found any.
I dont know how similar it is to the 1290GT but I found my KTM 1190R Adventure a little too agricultural, especially in terms of engine braking which felt very 'old school' and heavy. I've spent a day on a Ducati 1098 and really liked that so I dont think it's just because I'm more used to the newer bikes. I guess it's probably due to a heavy flywheel on the Adventure bikes compared to the race bike? I'd always imagined the Multistrada a bit more racey than other Adventure bikes but never had the chance to really try one?
No matter what....we need more photo's on this thread....surely theres some sneak fuckers over there than can get some more shots....
What's the verdict on this then?? New Ducati Supersport spotted Personally I'm not keen on the trellis frame, one of the things I really like about the Panigale is its lack of frame! it makes the whole bike really tidy and clean. I think this is almost moving into the sports tourer area, like VFR's etc Be nice to have more details and see it in the flesh tough?
If you want more details then feel free to look at the multi page thread that is already running on this bike, it even has the same picture!
