Ok, I was at WDW and sat on the new Supersport S while there, and listened to the presentation: It's a 937cc motor derived from the Hypermotard unit but with a different tune. The frame is derived from the Monster. The seat is a dual seat but has a cover fitted to make it look like a single seat. The S version has Ohlins front and rear. They've not decided on the base version suspension yet, but "expect Showa BPF" The version shown has an adjustable screen which you could pull up by a good 6 inches. There was no mechanism yet as this was still in design, but it was a nice feature. It has a digital display, but it was dummy so may be colour tft like the Panigale/Multi (on S only?) or b&w LCD (on base?) It will have the safety pack of ABS, DTC and Riding modes/power. Wet clutch, cable operated. They repeated that it's not a parts-bin but derived from existing parts - taking them and changing them to suit, making them better or designing new parts. The seating position is very upright as it has big bar risers on it like the old Supersports, making it comfortable and probably quite easy to ride all day. As some have pointed out, if you could buy a "Touring" pack with this that had a bigger/flip screen and hard panniers, then it would make a good tourer. The model show was very much prototype as a lot of the engine parts were not completed, but this was the display model and the real thing is probably in final testing now. Price will slot in between the Monster and the 959 Panigale, so expect base to be £10,950 and the S to be £12,500 or thereabouts. ...and while we're on the 2017 models: Smaller Multistrada - Intermot Cologne New Desmosedici - Intermot Cologne 1200 Scrambler - EICMA Milan Supersport - EICMA Milan
I don't know the size of the smaller Multistrada, but looking at the current range it's likely to be the 930cc engine but with a the usual lower spec components (suspension electronics, no DVT, etc.) to make it cheaper. But I may be wrong, as always!
A smaller multi could pass for a hypermotard....ie the hypermotard that they should have fucking made in the first place!! Dang it - with a 939 motor....don't bother...
LOL, I reposted the leaked photo and had a message from Ducati telling me to take it down within an hour! By that time the news outlets had picked it up so I deleted the original post and then reposted the MCN story with the same picture. Job done They were being really tight with security after that though... really tight!
Oh - that was your photo was it - the one they all got....? if so fair play....tip of the ducati hat there then!!
Sheesh - they don't get it do they....I don't want to rev the tits off a 939 to get the wheel up - I want all the action in the 10 - 70mph range....I want a new version of my 1100....in that I want a 1200....I don't think itll ever happen TBH. They cant really win with me...I love my evo sp. If they actually did produce a hypermotard 1200 it'd be out of my price range but it'd sell like hot cakes...
No, it wasn't my photo as I'm not that naughty! I just reposted the original photo but got a telling off. I did take a video of a Panigale prototype leaving the factory on Monday afternoon. Not sure what it was though, but one of the guys I know confirmed that there's lots of non-current/planned parts on it and even he didn't know what it was. There's also "Project 1502" (Feb 2015) that is currently undergoing engine tests at the moment. We think it's a V4...
Those pictures are pretty much it. The headlight looks a bit off but the "brow" of the LED running lights is correct with the main lights in a Panigale fashion. The tank cut-outs and fairing scoops are right as well. The front is very narrow on the bike, unlike the wide Panigale. You wouldn't mistake this for a Panigale, as they are very different, but it's still a Ducati. Oh, and single-sided swingarm as well, very much like the Pani.
Haha. I have heard form eye witnesses via facebook that the exhaust is in the belly pan. I wonder why MCN decided to go with the ugly version.
Could you please confirm the style of the exhaust system on it, was it the shot gun style like MCN are suggesting or the neat belly pan style ?? Also as to seating position/bars relationship, would you say it is more or less upright than a monster ??
I'm putting a Pound on the belly pan style, based on the assumption that those chumps at MCN are winging it and did not see it at all. And that a couple of people have told me it is the belly pan style. Or am I praying this is so, because if it is not I doubt I am chopping my IE in for one. Fingers crossed while I wait for Antonye......
