New Bike: Gsxr1000r (the Gixxer Thread)

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by Advikaz, Jun 7, 2020.

  1. I'm not exactly sure mate. I'm a creature of habit and do basically the same thing lap in lap out generally.

What I will say is though, a guy who was with us at alcarras last year crashed due to a fault with the stock QS. Neevesy had trouble with his. 44T had trouble with the one they had at Jerez. Bob Collins had trouble with his and various other people that I know also have had issues...

It could be a trait of a certain type of riding.... but me no likey o_O

  3. Thanks Phil, anytime mate.

I have only ridden the bike in totally stock form, I really like the front end and the back isn't awful either (it is a little soft even with 5 turns of preload) but a spring would sort this. Once people start throwing on grippier tyres this will definitely change things though as you have more forces though the suspenders all round.

Your mate may want a new shock, he might just be happy with a stiffer spring and or revalve. Time will tell. But as a stock package she's a beaut. I could definitely race on the front end as it is :)

End of the day, Guintoli is doing 37's around donny and 43's around Oulton on a completely bog stock bike, tyres, brakes the lot ! So it's more than capable. It's just whether it's your flavour of capable

Not sure yet mate, I hate to say it but riding it yesterday it was absolutely screaming at me to be raced haha

  4. You're very welcome :poop:

  5. @Advikaz just a thought ref the rear sets, it's possible, and just a theory here.. That with the front end higher in the forks, the center of gravity of the bike has shifted backwards in theory, it's possible therefore that the 'squat' or even the ride height of the bike under load is lower at the back which is dragging the pegs? marginal I know but you sound like a fast guy who is noticing the marginals? Have you checked the rider sag now the forks are changed? you never know you might be able to put half a turn on the rear pre-load just to counter that extra rear weight transfer.

Of course this could be bollox, I'm sure you have thought of all this. I just can't imagine the pegs being set any higher, I was convinced my ankles were tickling my bum hole when I rode my mates

  9. New master cylinder fitted 18/19 ratio but adjustable. Motul 660 and GPFAX pads as well so should improve the braking.

  10. What I've done to mine
Gearing, down 1at the front, 1 down at the back. Did go 1 down at the front, 1 up at the back. Made it very lively
    Brembo master cylinder
    Pp tuning rearsets
    Clip ons
Arrow can, and lextek down pipes with Woolwich tune. Up 10 bhp at the top, and at least 15 through the midrange

  11. 15bhp in the midrange is enormous !!

  12. Apart from the auto blipper and fancy forks, any other differences between standard and R? And are the forks worth it??

  13. Lighter wheels. Different forks (and I believe shock but not 100%). Blipper. Lean Angle ABS (still shit though haha). Launch Control. Braided lines (again not sure if the base has this now as well) Adjustable Swing arm pivot. Lightweight top yoke are the obvious ones I can see

  14. The forks are very good as standard on the R and I won't be doing anything to them as I had good front end feel. I've never had that on standard suspension before.

I even had springs and revalve on the RSV4 Ohlins.

  15. yeah, 15hp through the mid really is enormous! having ridden one of these a lot it would really make it a monster!

  16. worth the premium then :upyeah:

  17. Some say yes.. some say no. On PCP there's hardly any difference due to the R having better residuals (it's about £8-12 difference).

Some say the base turns faster... I wouldn't want the bike to turn faster anyway.

Worth it in my eyes just for those big shiny factory dongs on the forks !
