Background being that pedestrians (including cyclists, horses and riders etc) have a “right of access” to roads where as cars/trucks etc have to pay a duty/be licensed to use, given their potential to do more damage......as far as I’m aware.....I’m sure there might be someone on here that knows the legalities better than I do. Bottom line is that roads are paid for out of general taxation.........and most incomed people contribute to that, irrespective of whether they bike/drive/cycle/walk or all of the above. Part & parcel of civic society. Calling for a tax on bicycles makes as much sense as taxing pedestrians.
Has anyone got a video clip of a group of pedestrians walking in the road and holding up cyclists? Cos ... I'd watch that.
If this is the case, and it probably is, I still can't see why as a car driver and motorcyclist, I should then have to pay extra general taxation for using these modes of transport on the highway, but cyclists and, worse still, friggin horse riders can use them for free ? and then have chunks of my tax contribution wasted on bloody cycle and bus lanes, and don't start me off on subsedised empty buses. I wonder though if it's a cunning plan by the government and they are using cyclists and friggin horses as mobile traffic calming measures ?
You could apply the same logic for the use of tax revenue for anything that you don’t agree with - NHS treatment of ‘undeserving” injuries, speed humps, HS2, parking wardens, nuclear submarines, overseas aid, social security payments.........the list is endless (and pointless). As I said earlier - all part and parcel of democracy and a modern society. There are plenty of places in the world that don’t spend taxes like we do but I’m not sure I’d want to live in them.
Good lord are we still bleeting on about this ?? Look, no ones likes cyclists and we all think they are a mahoosive pain in the arse. Just live with the hate, and accept it
Cycling is amazing and most people in the UK enjoy it. Unfortunately there a a small minority of Lycra clad cyclists who give them all a bad name - usually with the cynical, self-entitled brexiteer generation.
Haha - that was an intentional grenade That “what the fuck” response perfectly encapsulates my point.
No no no. I insist that I get told off for being childish before the thread gets locked. I have rights, you know!
Love this response, using expletives for bringing up Brexit and telling me to get out... Brexiteer generation = over 50, never been to war and significant gains from the property market. It’s only a wind up, calm down.
Aircon I'm really surprised at your response to this , we all know full well one counts down to an explosion. So please in future use the correct method. Thank you.
