New Bmw 1000rr

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by JimVee, Nov 13, 2018.

  1. My neighbour, who’s just ordered the new BMW S1000RR, has been told this week there’s a major recall on all new bikes. All dealers have apparently been told not to let people have test rides and customers who’ve taken the bikes in for service etc have had the bikes “confiscated” (his words) till BMW factory engineers have been over to establish the problems to rectify them.

Sound like it’s a real problem.

  2. At least they’re rectifying it before the bikes go out instead of letting the customers be the test dummies (I’m talking to you Ducati v4)

  3. ‘Apparently’* was a dodgey milling machine in the factory that wasn’t drilling the oil ways to the correct depth.

Reportedly* it has affected at least 1 in 3 bikes and the most pessimistic estimates predict it could result in an engine replacement.

Kind of makes the delays associated with the M sports carbon wheel availability look like small fry.

  4. Just back from a very German themed track gig in Brno. Amazing btw
A good few new s1000RR’s kicking about. Yes, there are significant production issues right now. But they’ll get all that shit sorted. You can’t argue with the engine- what a corker! Time will tell regards reliability but I reckon it’ll be fine.
This time next year pit garages will be wall to wall with em :):upyeah:

  18. How was the weather in the end?
I was due to go on the same trip, but opted for Jerries instead.

  19. One of the milling machines was found to have a fault and that caused an issue with a oil galley not being machined deep enough and it’s affected 360 odd bikes. The engines are stamped with ‘dots’ that relate to which machine carried out the machining and those engines will be replaced. As far as I know there was only one dealer told not to allow test rides on their bike as the bike they have is one of the ones affected.

The factory has stopped production for June and July to rectify the issues and the word is that the June expected deliveries are now pushed back to September although some people are still getting bikes in June.

A letter has been sent out from BMW UK to this effect, I thought I’d posted it on here
