899 New Conrods?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by comesunt, Nov 28, 2014.

  1. If you are at the side of the motorway and worried about the rules above, you turned left at Paadock Hill

  2. con rods plus engine blue print £4000

  3. prob before your time,, but the entrance to Brands used to be underneath the track at Paddock

  4. Think you are missing my point fella. And you still access the pits via a tunnel

  5. long long time since I was last there !!

  6. think you missed my point there,, as I said,, if you are at the side of the mw then you are not likely to bothered about racing rules..

  7. great...lets have a one make bike race series cos it cant compete against anything else.........and then it still cant compete against itself without breaking so needs modding up..

  8. I got your point, but it had nothing whatsoever to do with mine. I was pointing out someone stuck up a pic of a change in crank, possibly because RACE bikes were failing, which also happened to be a non standard part so, as part of RACING it may not be legal

I have yet to see a 899, or hear of one, with l pissing out of it at the sde of the motorway due to failing cranks. Its a nothing thread, about nothing, with almost nothing in value other than maing peolpe scared stiff their new bike may break. When none have. Except when racing.

  9. it may not be quite nothing if a crank breaks !! I think the relevant point here is that, as the op says, as some are apparently now breaking under race conditions, it does not look good or can be at least questionable for the long term durability of road going ones.. whither that is a non point may be subjective

  10. You should see the number of ZX10 motors that blow up under race conditions. I must search kawasaki forums to let them know

  11. and Ducati have brought out a new crankshaft for fun ?,, I think not..

  12. The series is there so a ducati is going to win a bike race.

  13. perhaps you may have some insight into what is causing this potentially fatal fault with the crank / rods.. personally I cant se the point in replacing unless the fault can be rectified or the same is just going to happen again.

  14. Poor radii fillet design on the b/e.

  15. so it is a rod problem and not the crank ?

  16. Speak to Dave at Downshift Motorsport (Preston), he knows a lot of details on the rod issue

  17. I can't recall where I originally heard that the 899s had an alleged issue... Would be nice to get some ground truth from anyone who raced and blew an 899 engine.

I think I'll be keeping the 848 for another year, was considering getting an 899 for the team (if we get enough cash), but think another 848 may be on the cards... Can't afford a rod to break; and can't afford to change them to stop it from happening...
