1299 New Ducati 1299s Anniversario

  1. Although it hasn't made reserve. If you are false bidding, you either wouldn't have a reserve or you would take it past the reserve... also, this is still a new bike (some haven't received theirs yet, and a lot missed out) and so there are a few people around who allocated the money and are having a punt... quite possible it is genuine, but I think anyone bidding higher than £30k has lost their marbles!

  2. So who here would bid so high on the 1st day of a 10 day auction? I'm suspicious :Shifty:

  3. If it is to be believed, one dealer I spoke to was offered up to £35K to jump the queue I understand!

  4. I can believe it, but with the first run of SL's being advertised at £40k I know which I would go for if I were throwing that much at a bike...

  5. I was offered 3k over list, arguably a better road bike than a r or a sl ,with a 4 year warranty so I guess 30k would be achievable , would I swap for a r ?, no,would I swap for a sl, yep you bet I would .

  7. Was offered a 2016 R model as a straight swop by a dealer up country a couple of months ago , decided to stay with the anniversario

  8. But is the warranty transferable between private owners? I would assume so....

I think it's had false bidding also, I don't doubt it will get over 25k but as others have said it's unlikely people are bidding this early

  9. Yes the warranty is 100% transferable, but has this seller purchased the extended warranty as it has to be done at time of purchase,a big over site if he has not.4 year warranty is a big bonus imo.

  10. Regards the engine cover. Doesn't seem that bad. It looks like flash from the vacural casting process Ducati now use. Worst case scenario would be to have the cover replaced or if a replacement is as bad, have the edge sanded or machined down and repainted. These castings are NOT magnesium as people keep insisting, which is no bad thing as aluminium is much easier to work with and it is relatively easy to get a good colour match with a reputable painter, which is what I would do, if push came to shove.

  11. Hahaha! I also just noticed "Reserve not met"! Reserves always put people off, especially when they are clearly set too high.

  12. what makes you say they are not 'mag? alloy 899 one is cheap, 1*99 ones are expensive.
    Ducati state 2 piece 'mag!

  13. They may well state that but I am not convinced. For starters the so called 'magnesium' front subframe on the 1199/1299 is anything but. I had one re-painted a week or more after it was damaged and the metal exposed underneath. If it were magnesium you would begin to see a reaction in a matter of hours as one it's most problematic properties is that it does not tolerate exposure to oxygen and moisture at all well. The exposed area has to be treated with chromic acid (really nasty stuff and highly carcenogenic) to remove the corrosion, even if only a minor trace, thoroughly rinsed with water, dried then a compatible base primer immediately applied before any final top coat is added. Unless this procedure is followed scrupulously, the corrosion is 99% likely to return through the paint again. We treat the aircraft in our company in much the same way, when any evidence of corrosion on magnesium alloy parts is detected. I saw no evidence of this on my subframe. Secondly, it is extremely difficult to achieve a smooth finish with magnesium unless it is machined. The castings on the Panigale engine would be a lot less appealing cosmetically were this true. Then there is the cost. Pure magnesium castings are stupidly expensive to produce. Even at the prices Ducati charge for these so-called magnesium parts, they could not churn them out on a bike at this price breakpoint without charging you much more. Ever seen a 'mag' clutch cover casing after a bike's been dropped? You notice it copes rather well after the base metal is exposed. That's because it's largely aluminium alloy. The ONLY parts on Ducatis that have been truly magnesium were on some of the earlier 916's with aftermarket gold Marchesinis on, which were as soft as swiss cheese (another drawback of this material) and the airbox on the the Panigale Superleggera 2014 model. Take a close look at one in the flesh and you will notice that the finish is not that great. Not having a go, just highlighting a marketing gimmick. Saying that there may well be an element of magnesium in the alloy's chemical concoction but it's certainly not in the order of a pure magnesium alloy part.

  14. Magnesium is great in acute asthma as well.

  15. Thats very interesting, thanks :upyeah:

  16. No worries. Just don't like the idea of people being duped into thinking it's something other than what it is.

  17. £29,099.00 now. People bidding are leaving it as close to the £30k mark thinking that is the reserve I suspect. Only 2hrs 15mins to go, so get ya bids in. ;) Got an email saying the auction is ending and advising me what the reserve is! Didn't know it did that. Oh, it's £35k, which doesn't surprise me.

  18. But does anybody really think they're "pure" magnesium ! Yes they're an alloy so they will contain other elements (as do "Aluminium" components as they're also alloys) there are advancements in material technology and modern alloys utilising rare earth elements to help combat corrosion enable parts to be made that won't crumble to bits when exposed to the elements and yet are still 2/3rds of the weight of aluminium alloys with similar if not superior strength which is the point, I don't see it as a marketing gimmick.

  19. No further rise, unsold at £29099 :)
