  1. Thank you

  2. Welcome. Never heard someone so at home on a 1098 who has no Duc background straight away. Must be love at first ride :innocent:

  3. My only previous Ducati experience was a spin for a bit on a mates multistrada 620 ? And my mates 999r around Monteblanco, since I bought the 1098 I tried another mates 2020 pikespeak multistrada..was alright ish

  7. So on a Sunday morning i met my Pal Jamie and his mate for an oul spin

he used an app called Calimoto to come up with a twisty route, fine, but a up hill down dale very close meager bends route, more suited to adventure bikes , which they turned up on, arse, 2020 Ducati Multistrada Pikes peak edition jobbie for Jamie and a Big, black GS1200 for Diarmud .

Mucky, gravelly shite roads, i am surprised at how comfortable the bike is and how well it behaves on crap routes, in the wet and at slow speeds.

I stay last in the trio and come to a very quick realisation that Diarmud is either , very safe, very slow, or very safe and slow ..or just slow , we reach one junction and i make sure i get ahead of him so i can actually keep Jamie in sight and know where we are supposed to be going

We pull over and I swap with Jamie for the Multistrada , we literally travel 15 or so kilometers , I'm constantly looking for the GS in the mirrors, i only see 140 on the Strads clocks and when i next pull i swap back with Jamie and Diarmud eventually pulls uplifts his visor and says,

"I'm going to head home, I didn't realise it was going to be a trackday on the road "

I look at Jamie and go, Ehhhhhhhhhhhh and then at Diarmud, no no youre grand come on ill stay behind you, try opening your fucking throttle , no you're fine ..you nonce

Onwards on more shitty roads we eventually end up on a nice stretch on the N81 abgain heading to Baltinglass, about 10kms of fast N road lay ahead , I'm chasing Jamie until he tells me to go by.

The roads are a mix of dry and wet, the 1098 is so well behaved, turning , holding a line and just putting dollops of torque to the ground . Alas though, as we joined the road from a route i wouldn't normally travel i get a bit lost as to wher i am on the road and its only as i'm bellowing down a straight to a bend that is a 90 degree turn into and over a bridge and I'm going a bit fast because i didn't know i had reached this corner already I go for the brakes and the box, and i've hit a false neutral , merde.

Now i don't panic, i realise where i am , get the clutch lever and gearbox dancing again and luckily although its wet, the bike scrubs off plenty of speed on the front and as I tip in and feed the clutch out i have found the gears and we get through the corner as i lift a hand off the bars to apologise to Jamie behind me as it was kind of a dick move if he was following me in , but he didn't realise anything was wrong so i played it cool [IMG]

We head up into the hills across gravel strewn roads to a village literally in middle of nowhere with nothing in it and there are people, where they came from i don't know, queuing for coffee.

Why is coffee so expensive? if i get some money to put into businesses it will be coffe and food because people are ming mongs with more money than sense.

And then its back over the donkey track and home where i swear the bike has got louder since i got it and contemplate whilst the little one throws shapes on it

  8. And then the Gf took me out to dinner and as usual, every second spin we do we get into some form of trouble. The evening ended with me being pulled by the cops.

  9. New pads

Bit of uneven wear in the right side caliper , one pad less worn than the other so will keep an eye on that

Next is a new set of tyres , the rear thats on it is a 2015 Pirelli angel gran turismo summat or other and the frond is a Pirelli Diablo 2016 vintage. they are still soft, still loads of thread , but in the wet the rear felt a bit wip wobble, could have been the first rain after a good dry spell but will change them out.

    Bridgestone S22's going in .

  10. Sunday just gone was a 400km day on the 1098, national roads on the way there, no discomfort anywhere to be honest but i did drop an all day pain killer, motorway all the way back was painful though on the neck at silly speeds .

We started with accompanying her neighbour across the road, Lithuanian chap , out to his " bike club" meet . Of course he has two bikes, one crashed r1 and another crashed bandit he was teaching his current GF to ride, he had literally just got the bodywork back the day before with its nee " Kamillion" paint work, or purple to you and me , and fitted it to the bike, noo test ride beforehand so of course on the way out the bike breaks down . We get him sorted and get on the road

A lot of the eastern europeans i feel are like Americans, grown up on movies, everything is loud, dangerous, wow yes, the guys are little boys and the women are all dolled up and dressed like cheap hookers, fantastic.

From no helmets in the garage forecourt going from where parked to the pumps in front of cops, to no reg plates , they really do themselves no favours.

A pitstop for Brunch 130kms in as we had skipped brekkie.

Back on the road and as we get closer to her folks place the skies just open up, real high clouds and just a mahoosive horizon greeted us as we made our way from New Ross to Tramore , i haven't seen skies so wide , no trees or hedges hindering the view, since my time in Australia, it was absolutely beautiful.

The happy scene broken by a country bumpkin in his van on a roundabout taking the outside lane all the way around a roundabout when i thought he was going off left, as i was and i missed him with my front wheel by inches, oh how we laughed.

The Gf's Dad got this back after a bit of work so I promptly hopped on it, went 1.5kliks down the road and broke it, ah wasn't me, split fuel pipe and a blown main fuse , but a fun little thing whilst it did run on back roads . 1973 Honda cb125

He had one as a younger man and apparantly " the fanny he could pull on it back then "

The fanny puller below, plus helmet hair..they didn't have helmets so hair was the helmet

Onto the seaside for an ice cream but the queues were so large we fucked that off, mocked the local MC club and headed home.

    Great day.

Ducati is still being enjoyed , bike is still on the tyres it came with but with a few trackdays on the horizon they will be swapped over but for normal fast road use they are doing fine.

  14. So, its gone over the 25'500kms mark and it lives outside under a cover so i thought best to send it for a valet and ACF50 treatment seeing as the bad weather will be here soon . For a bike thats 13 years old, been properly used, stone chips and cracks here and there , it turned out very well. Stainless bolts waiting to be fitted as the ones on it are made of cheese .

  16. Hello all

well after the valet above the bike was put away , took it out the next weekend and it was only running on one cylinder and the weather has been crap ever since, so i took it out last week and the bike is still running at times, on one cylinder

Can anyone advise what cylinder the right hand exhaust comes from , would it be the front cylinder? The exhaust has cold pulses ( not firing) at low revs, left hand exhaust stays hot.

just want to try the simple things like checking for spark first before getting in too deep looking at all connectors etc

  17. Both exhausts will dump into a collector box before splitting again so it’s not as straightforward as horizontal cylinder = right hand exhaust for example. Also if yours has an exhaust valve (I don’t know if 1098’s do or not) that may be closed and prevent exhaust from going into one of the silencers until it opens.

Best thing to do is to check the temp of the exhausts at the headers or anywhere before the collector box.

As you say, start with the basics, fuel feed, spark etc.

  18. Nice post nice

  19. Hi and welcome :)

  20. Hi all, well after the valet its all gone Pete Tong

The single cylinder running turned out to be the front coil stick, it had broken right at the bell end/ tip, was still sparking but sending sparks through and around so wasn't a clean spark all the time. replaced that , and all was well, but i had fit a lithium battery after buying two confirmed faulty lead acid batteries

i had to replace the lithium as i thought that was also faulty , just was not starting the bike . This has been replaced with another brand new lead acid battery and this one again is not holding a charge

Something on the bike has to be drawing the power from the battery when it is turned off.

Does anyone have any experience of this at all ?

its ruining the bike for me so much so i have decided once its resolved i'm selling it.

The bike is utterly fantastic but has been tainted for me.

if anyone has had similar issues, can pouint me in right direction it would be appreciated.
