New Hypermotard 950 Sp

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by Maplesyrup, Nov 4, 2018.

  1. 690 SMC R is a bike I will probably look at in a couple of years. Always wanted one. Currently on a 990

  2. I think it looks beautiful when you see proper pics of it. Here’s me on the daily commute [IMG]

Loving the wheels on the SP. like the trellis work seat unit too. I think the design and attention to detail is top notch.

  3. I had one of the first in 2008, brilliant bike, only bike i ever had where you can go hot into a roundabout & still pick a tighter line. Most agile ive experienced. Makes the hyper seem porky, though didnt have the legs for distances. Would defo revisit, though at 5"4 it was challenging...

  4. Did you need a step ladder? :joy:

I’d love a 701/690 as a second bike just for pure mentality. Seems daft having a hyper and a super at the same time though!

  5. Think I may sell my 16 SP for the new 690 SMC R....:)

  6. Needs decat can & remap, cos it weighs nothing it'fly.

  7. Looks poo IMO, a cross between a KTM 950 SM and the air cooled model !

  8. I think it’s a great improvement. Sleaker, well trimmed version of the previous model - with a load of decent tech to boot.

  9. I want one!

  10. No, 939 for life!

  11. When the 950 first came out, I was kind of pissed at the way it looked. I was going to be getting the 939 SP after the new year.

After watching more videos and doing more research on the differences , I am now convinced that the 950 SP will be the better investment for all the upgrades it has. The price here in the US went up $400 dollars more than the 2018, so not a bad deal at all.

At first , I hated the double exhaust look, now I think it is pretty bad ass looking, especially once the new Tail Tidy comes out. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the new look. You have to admit, the upgrades are pretty good..

  12. Oh the upgrades are fantastic, and it'll be absolutely brilliant to ride. The new dash etc. alone is worth the extra price tag. When the 939 is at it's end and there's more aftermarket support in terms of exhaust setups, maybe they'll bring out one that looks a bit more motocross. That's when I'll buy one, as long as nothing else has come to the market that takes my fancy.

  13. What I don't like is that the gas tank got smaller, 3.8 gal. I will be using it for commuting 60 miles one way, 120 round trip.

How many miles can I do with normal riding with the 3.8 gallons??
Which ridding mode conserves the most gas?

  14. You'd be very lucky to do your entire trip even on a 939. I get maybe 100 miles before the light comes on.

  15. I don’t understand how some say you can get 140 and some say much less.
I guess the way one rides has a huge impact on gas miliage, and which mode of riding is used.
I know that on other websites with guys who have the 939 say they get up to 140 miles with a 4.2 gas tank.
I figured that the 3.8 may get at least 125 or more??
I hear the light comes on when you still have about 20 to 30 miles left in the tank.

  16. I only ride until the fuel light, so maybe that would make sense. I ride fairly aggressively using premium fuels (I think it's 98 octane for you).

  17. Which mode of riding would you recommend to conserve the most fuel?

  18. Wet mode, the least aggressive power delivery, cuts your engine to 75bhp.

But you might as well buy a Honda NC750X if you want to commute 120 miles and get the best fuel economy. As good as a Hyper is, it's rubbish on the motor/free/highway.

  19. Yeah, but I come from the motocross world and need a bike that will make my ride fun, something that will be just like a dirt bike.
The Hyper is the bike that really makes me want to ride..

  20. I did the same. Came from MX most of my life, I adore my bike more than anything, but I wouldn't want to commute on it. Is there any room in your budget for a cheap bike just to get you to work and back so you can enjoy the Hyper for what it's good at?
