think it was only the 996sps's that were numbered,the only 748's were numbered were the R version.

 

No SPS's were numbered on the yoke and all the genuine UK models should have been imported via Moto Cinelli who were the sole importer at the time as Ducati UK had not been formed yet. The paperwork that was present when the bike was new will confirm it is an SPS otherwise it would be down to spotting the subtle differences from a standard Bip model.
