Well due to a trip away the rear Supercorsa needs changed within the next 2 weeks so I elected to go for the Power 3s. £212 fully fitted, which seems like a great deal. So I'll take the bike in next week to get them on.
Are the 2CTs still made and are the Pures or Power 3s any better? I am a huge fan of 2CTs and wouldn't bother changing, but as with anything you like, there will come a day when they are no longer available. Has this day dawned yet?
As far as I know, you can still get 2CTs and Power Pures. But I never asked about these specifically as I was looking for the Power 3s. I loved the 2CTs and the stuff I've heard about these is that they are very similar - but turned up to 11. More grip, better mileage but the same sort of feel as the 2CTs. I hope this is corrrect! I want to love the Supercorsas, but I just can't. Again last night - 12 degrees, dry but windy - the Supercorsas just seem to lack any sort of feel for me. I know it's very personal, but I've never felt this nervous on sporty tyres ever before. Maybe on rock hard old Dunlops or something, but not on modern, sporty tyres. I had Pirellis, Bridgestones and Michelins on my last bike and got on well with them all, but the 2CTs were my clear favourite. I think my subsonic riding style is just not suited to the Supercorsas (or vice versa more like). There's no doubt they are good tyres but I am really hoping the Power 3s will resolve my confidence issue.
Andy, it may be worth giving the Rosso Corsas a try. If doing alot of road miles in the wet/cold, but still wanting dry road performance (without needing the same heat as SuperCorsas), then they are excellent. I got 2.5k miles out of my last set (K6 1000) which was mostly fast road and 2 trackdays (one dry, one in the torrential rain). I have heard the new SuperCorsa V2s (as fitted to the Pani) are alot more durable than the SC BSBs which have only lasted me 900 miles. I know of SCV2s that are providing upto 3k miles on a Pani.
Update... I had Pilot Power 3s fitted this afternoon and broke them in over 120 miles of Scotland's finest roads. Verdict after the first day - absolutely fantastic! They are just brilliant. Ok, it was 18 degrees up until 9pm tonight up here but they were way better than the Supercorsas felt on some of the same roads in similar temperatures last night. Just like the 2CTs, they feel very stable, grippy, trustworthy and offer loads of feedback. Night and day to the Supercorsas in my view. They've totally transformed my 848 and my confidence is now back. Not quite as high as I reached on the GSXR but I owned that for 6 years and knew it inside out and I've only done 1500 miles on the 848 so far. Would recommend these highly! Here's a pic after bumbling home from the tyre shop in ridiculous traffic. Andy
A couple more pics. The chicken strips aren't as big as they look, honest! They are actually smaller than the ones I left on the Supercorsas and that's after 120 miles of riding on unknown roads with a huge heavy bag on. Once I get dialled in properly these will really rock! Lets you see the dual compound too.
Thanks for all this info. I may well give them a whirl at next tyre change despite being a 2CT diehard.
No problem. I didn't realise it, but I think I now know I am / was a 2CT diehard too. These feel very similar to how I remember the 2CTs. I was in the garage last night and my old man said it was funny as I love Michelins, he loves his Dunlop Roadsmarts and my brother loves his Diablo Rossos. 3 riders, 3 different bikes, 3 tyre preferences...
Update on the Power 3's. Quick blast to Scarborough on Sunday afternoon. Couldn't fault them one bit. Really smooth compared to the OE Scorpions. Bike turns quicker, not at an alarming rate but just nice. Felt like I could lean over as far as wanted and they just kept gripping and giving me more and more confidence. I'm sure other tyres would be just as good but I can see me sticking with these for quite a while.
Well got the pilot road 2s back on last night,it's like meeting an old flame,or getting back into bed under a warm duvet. So much more predictable than the outgoing power pures, such a progressive and even roll off the centre line.one happy rider again.and so much better than the road 3s,also found out why the 3s gave up after a few hard days riding, they are a lot softer than the 2s,and if you push them past a point the compound does not recover,I thought something fishy was up with them at the time but everyone was saying it must be my Imagination, and the same is very unlikely to happen to the 2s,and I have pushed them both to the same limits.
See the beginning of my thread,I was asking about the latest offerings as I did not like the pures v road 2s or even 3s.and I was concerned that the newest offering would lean more towards the feel of the pures than the others, pardon the pun.
Yip, the thread I started got merged in so there's a bit if a dual topic going on, but it's all helpful. I rode the 130 miles home today, starting in 18c and dry, ending in 10c and pretty wet. The Power 3s were brilliant all the way. They are really, really good in the wet. I was tip-toeing about like an idiot once it got properly wet then realised they were still grippy and I could still ride reasonably swiftly. So I managed to make decent progress despite being a terrible rider in the wet. They also coped brilliantly with the mixed damp patches, dry bits, puddles and the rest that I had for about 50% of the run down. Happy camper!
(Posted this in another thread but probably more appropriate for here) With an upcoming week riding the Pyrenees (another thing to tick off the bucket list :smile, I decided to temporarily swap the SCv2 for the latest Michelin Pilot Power 3s in anticipation of the mileage, nature of the roads, and potentially wet conditions in the mountains. Initial thoughts are that they are ultra sticky at normal road temps, more stable than either the SCv2 or Diablo Rosso Corsas, but provide a good stream of feedback, and roll edge to edge very nicely! MICHELIN Pilot Power 3 - Tires On-road | MICHELIN - United States - Motorcycle-website The new construction of the PP3 is evident when using the 'finger test'. The outside rubber is very soft/flexible when pressed with the finger, but there is a definite underlayer that firms up considerably. The actual carcass remains quite flexible: softer than the likes of Dunlop D211GPs or SportSmarts, although firmer than SCs.
Yup, totally agree. After a track session on Friday night and 120 miles of back road cratching last night I am still really pleased with them.
