Michael Neeves is running these on his Longterm Hyperstrada and seems to like them too. Check this out Neeves on the Hyperstrada launch, broken keys and trackdays | Video Diary | Motorcyclenews.com - YouTube about 2m30 he starts to talk about the Power 3s. Andy
Great thread as I am close to needing a new set of tyres for the Panigale. Majority of riding on road, potholes, wet weather etc with occasional trackday thrown in. These look a great all round tyre but looks like I will have to go down to a 190/55 on the rear
Bit the bullet and fitted these to the Panigale - must say a great tyre and loads more confidence in the front for me anyway. I feel that I can push the front more and know what is happening down there compared to the Pirelli
It really is amazing the difference that a simple change of tyre can make to the whole ridding experience. On my old 1098s i had Corsa 3's front and back. Although they were good tyres, i never felt 100% confident on them to the point where i was convinced the problem was me or the suspension set up. My current 1098s came with a new set of Pilot Power 2CT's. The difference was very very noticeable with the same suspension set up. Much more confidence into and out of corners, to the point where i am taking much larger lean angles without even thinking about it. To be honest, i can't see me going back to Pirelli as a choice of tyre for my 1098s..........................if it aint broke, don't fix it.
Eh... 2.0 bar in the rear, 2.1 in the front. I had the bike set up by a specialist a few weeks ago and this is what he told me to use. Seems to work! It's only a wee bit different to book pressures, front is the same but the book says 2.2 in the rear from memory.
Pilot Power 3 update. Now got over 3000 miles on them and there is loads of life left. Last week had a 1000 miles on them and was concerned would they last for the trip I had planned after how the Scorps went. Couldn't be more wrong, been Belgium, France, Germany, Italy. Done every Alpine pass imaginable including an unplanned off road section and 800 motorway miles and I reckon they could do the same again. Grip and feedback was faultless, only complaint is that however hard I try, and I tried hard, I couldn't get it right to the edge on the left hand side.
Getting pilot power 3's tomorrow I've always liked michelins so looking forward to giving these a try
I did 500 miles in very mixed conditions on these last weekend and they were absolutely superb. Excellent in the wet - like no tyre I've ever tried before. Only flaw so far was outright confidence on track, but that's about 4 hours a year for me so I'm not complaining at all. Nearly time for a new rear after 3500 miles! Reckon I'll get 4k from it. Unbelievable!
V happy with the Power 3s for road and intermediate track day. Wet and dry excellent. Only issue the rear didn't fit under the hugger, so rear shock filthy after some wet riding. Front and rear get real sticky.....liquorice. Can peel big rolls off the edge at the end of a spirited session, so not sure how they will last. Having said that, centre of tyre is wearing fine.....I only get really to the edge on track.
Just ordered a rear. It apparently causes no problem with a 2CT on the front which isn't worn out yet. Mind you, I've always been delighted with 2CTs, so not sure I am going to notice anything much. Never taken them on track. What I really want from a dual compound tyre is the same stickiness on the sides and a harder wearing centre so that they don't square off after a couple of hundred miles on a motorway. What you seem to get is extra stickiness on the sides and the same wear in the middle. Pah!
I found that the PP3s go off quite dramatically once they heated up beyond some modest exercise on the road, not track. They don't have the same heat resilience or responsiveness as Rosso Corsas. I just chucked on some SportSmarts and will be comparing them to how the PP3s faired over 3k miles.
Well I had my first long blast on the new tyres yesterday and I'm really enjoying them I feel much more confident on these compared to the pirellis which only I thought didn't give a good feeling although they did start to grow on me as I got used to the bike. The bike seems to turn in a little bit quicker on the michelins and they work right from they off.
