excellent choice and totally correct to ignore "sound advice" i was thinking today that i have learnt more about maintaining a bike since owning a ducati than all the others, i ALWAYS have a tinkering job or two to do, hondas they are not

I agree. Could have bought a nice new Honda cb650r and be comfortable and reliable. But it’s doesn’t rattle bang and pop and give you that smile when you open your workshop door. That’s what a hobby is all about. I love the fact I get off it and my back hurts and wrist hurts and my hips are numb… perfection personified!
Welcome to the forum. You need to religiously change the cambelts every two years regardless of mileage, otherwise they will snap and punch a valve through the piston. If that is done, the cylinder head bolts will snap, or the rocker shafts will lose their hard chrome plating and turn into cheese. If you get away with that, the crank gallery oil plug will unscrew itself into the crankcase. Luckily, in owning 3 ducatis, I have only had electrical issues and the joy of riding them far outweighs the issues.

For me, one of the best parts of owning a Tamburini bike is how easy and enjoyable they are to work on. I was in your shoes 5 years ago, but thanks to this forum (and Haynes) there's really no issue you'll encounter that doesn't have a solution. These bikes are special. Enjoy it, and welcome!

Isn't the consensus these days that you can push the belt change out to 3/4 years if using modern belts? Or is that opening a massive can of worms on here?!
Officially, the belt change interval from the 848/1098 has been extended to 5 years (but no change to mileage). For the 9**/7**, I was recommended that the interval remains as was. 748R belts continue to be every 12 months. Andy
