Yes, wire into the sat nav connector. The XT power lead (included in the box with the XT and motorcycle mount) connects to a 12V supply (ideally switched) and has a small box half way along it's length which provides the correct voltage to the XT (I assume it's 5V, as it would be from the USB connector).
Obviously the mount is different, if you mean connecting wires to the same power source, then yes. Unlike the 660 there is just one positive wire and one negative wire, that's it. No audio jack, USB or separate connector for the traffic antenna. It's just 12v power. There is a small block around the size of a box of Swan Vesta matches in-line. This is a transformer that takes the 12v to, I believe 5v. Obviously you can't chop this out otherwise you'll just end up with an expensive paperweight. The XT relies on everything data wise being via Bluetooth and WiFi. There is a mini USB jack under a rubber flap on the back of the unit but this seems pretty well redundant as map update transfers are via WiFi and route loading via Bluetooth. If you're running an Autocom or Starcom intercom then you'll need one of their Bluetooth dongles for the audio feed. Garmin expect everyone that wants audio to be running with a Bluetooth headset these days. The XT will be a huge leap from a Zumo 660. I came from a 660 to a 590 and even then it's streets ahead.
Unfortunately you still have to use the USB connector and Garmin Express running on a PC to install updates to the Cyclops speed camera database. Maybe in the future Garmin will add the Express functionality directly into the Zumo XT. Everything else @Bumpkin says is spot on and a much more complete answer than mine
I cut the original 660 loom back so it was only powering the unit using the ducati power supply on the left hand side. I wanted to know if I could use the same approach and it’s now clear I can. Thank you.
Yep, you'll just need to find somewhere to coil the excess cable, that's between the mount and the transformer. Mines cable tied into the left hand fairing just below the black plastic strip you remove to connect the power. Had to carefully cut and peel all the heat shrink from my install of the 590 loom to recover the plug.
I have the DP mount but modified it so the 660 sat below the DP carbon screen. Probably need to make a new mounting plate. Not checked out the xt spec yet so not sure of the size difference compared to the 660.
How bright are they will direct sunlight or if rider is wearing a hi-vis & the reflection of sun on hi-vis.. My 660 is still solid, my 595 annoys me because of the low brightness & reflective shite effect.
not sure about the hi-viz ... but the Zumo XT is fecking bright ... even with the sun reflecting off it ... brighter than the 1260s TFT screen.
The XT mount uses the same industry standard AMPS 4 hole pattern as the Zumo 660 and most other Garmins. The 390/395 models, that the Ducati Sat Nav mount was made for, was a silly exception to this. Adapter plate from @Desmo Dave/Snells (if they still stock/make them) gives the required hole pattern. So sounds like you should be sorted. Alternatively, or for others considering the DP bracket, buy one of the Iconic brackets made by @Jamie Clare which have the sensible and far more universal AMPS pattern.
They all use the same AMPS hole pattern, the only difference is the 390/395 mount (and so the Ducati Mount too) has the hole pattern rotated by 90 degrees. Not a big deal if your using a RAM Ball Mount, but a pain in the bum when using dedicated mounts.
Jamie's stuff is good kit indeed. and the pre and post-sales support is second to none ... (or is that a nun?).
