New shape 848 / baby 1199?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Ducatibob848, Feb 20, 2013.

  1. To sell bikes.

I've been told that dealers are fully aware of the forthcoming 899cc sportsbike and will be going to try it out in October.

  2. Threads merged

  3. moved to the fictional section.....

Look if its in mcn it must be true they've never talked bollocks before :) I think everyone who doubts there's going to be a new smaller capacity sportsbike should have to drink there own piss through there trackday socks when the new bike is unveiled in about 2 - 3 month and ill do the same if there isn't one lol

  7. Yes but what will you do when an 899 leaves you for dust at the traffic lights?

  8. What are you going to do when Ducati unveil an 1198 Monster and a Scrambler at the EICMA show but no 899 then?

  9. The 899 will have broken cover long before EICMA.

  10. I'll believe it when I see it. Drunk my own piss before, not doing it again.

  11. Enjoy my nice warm beverage ha

  12. There is no doubt that Ducati will make and release a smaller capacity sports bike to replace the 848. Whether its called the 849 or 899 is sort of irrelevant and with the production of the 848 having stopped production, it is very likely it will be available towards the start of 2014. It would make sense to release it at Milan, but Ducati may prefer to wait until the Cologne show so they can stagger their model releases. Just my thoughts, probably wrong

  13. It's probably been on here hundreds of times, but is all 848 production stopped and when did it stop?

I know of a guy who ordered the new model a few weeks ago. And also (get this) DG said to me they'd taken a few deposits on the 848 replacement this time last year when I ordered my Corse. Mental eh?

  14. I don't think that is true.

Ducati have stopped production of many bikes over the years and have not replaced them.
Where is the middle-ground sports bike that was the SS range?
What happened to the ST range? Ok, there's the new Multi1200 but that's "Adventure Sports" not a full-on tourer like the ST.
    What happened to the Classics?
What happened to the Scrambler ... oh, wait... :upyeah:

Ducati's strategy may now be to have only one Superbike, the 1199, as an aspirational model.
Everything else may be there to keep the money coming in; the monsters, multistradas, diavels, hypers, etc.

It's been said many times before but I think the biggest reason it is unlikely is that to produce an "899" will cost exactly the same as an 1199, but customers will want to pay less for it otherwise they may as well just buy the 1199.

  15. I'm sure the dealers don't mind hanging on to someone's cash for a couple of years. There's bound to be a few left but I think production had already stopped before I picked my bike up back in April. I also find it funny that there's a few dealers on autotrader advertising new evo corse SE's saying they have them in stock but they only have the pictures off the ducati website. I doubt there's many left to be bought new

  16. Antonye it's sounds like your willing to accept the pissy sock challenge lol

  18. Lol! Not quite...

I'm sure I've said it before, in lots of other threads about the same subject, but basically there are a whole load of hurdles that Ducati will need to get over before producing a mini-1199 becomes a viable project. There are too many to list (which is why I have this opinion) but some of them are major hurdles, like the engine bore/stroke issue and the price point, and some of them will be strategy issues like releasing too many models at once (M1198, Scrambler) and also future direction (aspirational model).

    BUT...

    This is Ducati.
They've done mad things that don't make sense before (Hypermotard, Diavel ... even the Monster!) and have come out of it pretty well.

So while I am 99% sure that there won't be one, that doesn't make me 100% sure.

  19. Must be true then

  20. 998 - 748
    999 - 749
    1098 - 848
1199 - ?........ST?, Classic?......I'm not a betting man but I'd be willing to have a punt on a smaller Panigale
