New shape 848 / baby 1199?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Ducatibob848, Feb 20, 2013.

  1. Seems to me that on this forum, the 749 has a bigger following than the 999, and the 848 has a bigger following than the 1098. They are both smaller versions of the bigger bike. Now that the smaller version is a whole 900cc, I'm not quite following why it is suddenly a disaster. On the road you are still going to get licence-shredding performance and more handling than you require for roundabout surfing. I am struggling to think why you'd need a full fat Panigale.

Oh, I get it, it's the double-sided swinger - the one that 749 owners seem to live with so happily.

So that means that if a Ducati now doesn't come with a SSSW, it's not worth buying? Weird.

  2. It's just "purist" snobbery.

  3. It doesn't have a trellis frame or a dry clutch anyway so surely losing SSSA won't make much difference

  4. Hopefully it'll completely buck the trend and spend more time working just fine than broken and needing a trip to the garage.

Cheers 749 you beautiful bike. I'd have kept you if you weren't such a pain!!

  5. Would it be greedy to have a 848 and a 899?

    (And a 1100s monster)

  8. I too think the swinging arm looks nice. Who gives a monkeys about whether the dash is coloured or 'normal' like every other bike out there. For the price it will be a much better buy for the roads, pity I just changed mine !

Cannot see how they have cut £4000 off the 1199 price though, the Showa BPF forks will be more than the standard 1199 forks and apart from having the swinging arm, dash etc changed it cannot amount to £4k. I bet if you priced the single s/arm and the dual s/arm up there will be very little difference in price. Maybe as mentioned previously the range toppers subsidise the smaller models.

    Really like it though.

  9. Anyone else think that video is absolute rubbish I could have made it better filmed on my phone. Ducati needs to ask Ktm how to make a decent promo video

  10. Yup I like it,be ace in 2012 corse se colours then I would consider changing bike

  11. I agree shit vid

  12. Or the tricolore paint job :upyeah:

  13. Agree, video is crap, at least the 1199 one has chess pieces on it !

  14. 12.5k is a lot for a not very special bike.

  15. Well it must be good cos my 15 year old daughter has just texted "dad 899 panigalle omfg" I must really speak to her about texting me whilst in school:biggrin:

  16. Not at all.

  17. You can say that kind of thing about any "branded" merchandise.

Do you think the full fat version of the Panigale is £10k better than the current JIL4's? I don't think so. Nowhere near.

  18. That's it there's some brilliant bikes for £12k anything for than that is spending a lot of money for very little gains I would say

  19. Will an 1199 motor go in it? Has anyone looked at the bore/stroke etc in comparison to the 1199? Barrel and piston change to make a big bore 899?
