New shape 848 / baby 1199?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Ducatibob848, Feb 20, 2013.

  1. Sort of defeats the purpose in buying an 899. But the bore and stroke is up on the ducati website

  2. At the time I bought my 500 Pantah, you could get a Kawaski 1000 for the same money. So most people did.

The Pantah had superior handling, brakes, looks, a fairing. But it was missing 500 cc and 2 cylinders.

  3. There is no barrel...

  10. Official Launch Imola 8th Oct

Rather than start another new 899 thread...we'll just continue this one on?

The launch is today in Imola and its raining..."wetter than an otters pocket" according to Ben below :frown:

    Check out his tweet though...

    Ben Cope from visordown

Ben Cope@visordownDucati test rider says the stock 899 is roughly two seconds a lap quicker around Imola than the stock 848 Evo. #minigale 10:31 AM - 8 Oct 2013

  11. they did put them on full wets :)

  12. I honestly cannot see how anyone can describe them as ugly. I think it's a cracking looking bike - double-sided swinger and all.

  13. I have to agree.....and there aint nout "budget" about it either. Afterall, its most likely got a better finish than jap bikes of recent yrs and thats a fact.

  14. For the price it bloody well better had:mad:

  15. You beat me to it Ali.....was gonna post the link.

I dunno, the swingarm debate will run and run. I dont really bother with what it looks like, as long as it serves prupose...

  16. The wheelbase on the 899 is 11mm shorter than the 1199 (at 1426mm vs 1437mm) so it's hardly worth calling it "shorter" !!

  17. I did try to convey the complex human emotion of 'not giving a toss' but the little rolling eyes emotion doesnt quite do the job.

The DSS is growing on me

  18. Interesting tweet......

    they've obviously been informed.

  19. The engine is the 899 Superquadro and represents a further step forward in the design and technology of two-cylinder engines, can generate outstanding performance while ensuring power delivery smooth and full-bodied. With 148CV (109kW) @ 10,750 rpm and a torque of 10.1kgm @ 9,000 rpm, this engine achieves a perfect balance between driveability and power delivery thanks to the choice of specific measures bore and stroke: 100mm x 57.2mm. This cylinder Desmodromic L-90 ° fully integrated with the monocoque chassis, it inherits the structural design of the engine that powers the 1199 and, as for the model of a cylinder capacity, allows you to lengthen the intervals for maintenance at an interval of 24.000km.

The monocoque structure integrates the airbox contributing significantly to the overall weight reduction bringing it to an incredible benchmark for the sector amounted to 169kg dry.

The thermal part of the engine has been rotated backwards by enabling engineers to change the balance of weight between the front and rear. This also allows the steering geometry with a 24 ° tilt of the steerer and 96mm of trail. The new bi-swing arm, made entirely of cast aluminum, sets the distance to 1.426mm and bringing the weight distribution of the 899 Panigale to 52% front and 48% rear.

The rear frame is steel trellis. Ciclisticamente, the Panigale 899 is equipped with a Showa BPF 43mm fully adjustable in compression and rebound damping and spring preload.

The package is completed from the shock front steering. To the rear suspension provided by a fully adjustable Sachs monoshock, is expected to side mount, as the older sister. Chapter brakes: we think Bosch and Brembo brake hard and safely, with the ABS system with 3 levels, the Bosch 9MP, an integral part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP). The front brake system is characterized by a pair of the new double monoblock radial calipers M4.32 Brembo radial brake pump driven by a high performance. Up front, the discs are 320 mm, while the rear there is a single 245 mm disc diameter on which works a single Brembo caliper. We remember how the now famous electronic package comprising the Ducati Riding Mode which now intervene on ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Quick Shift (DQS), Engine Brake Control (EBC) and Ride-by-Wire (RBW) is present on this 899 Panigale
