trouble is I'm still not sure wait for the pani - dont bother with the new 848 is getting my vote but I think Bob should start a poll if he's still undecided
to come up with a baby pani, they have to build an engine especially for that bike. They will keep using the torquy 848/1198 engines in different forms on all other models as these engines are now in their full profit quantities and margins are at their best. What would they to use the Pani light engine for? just for having a baby pani? There probably will be one, bit like the 749 but it's not a celar cut business decision..was a great R version though... i wouldn't hold my breath... but soon there will be 2year old 8000 miles panis on the market... a base will go 10K, so?
Well it wasnt that far off topic until... Wonder if they will chuck the 848 motor in the Pani frame...or if they can?!
i spoken to my dealer on this very subject as I have to change my 848 soon or pay the final payment. They have heard nothing about a baby panigale and for the above reasons don't think there will be one. Also with all the trick stuff on the 1199, it might not be cost effective to produce a baby version, the margins would be too small. I don't think it'll happen, but would love to be proved wrong!
Hmmm interesting read and cant really argue with it. Maybe they will just play around with the Corse SE and throw even more(or take off) it and give it a new lick of paint all for a nice price tag. Be more cost effective for them and be fairly easy to do compared to building a whole new bike based on Antonye`s post.........but then if anyone is gonna do something because they want to its gonna be Ducati and the thing is they know if they do, people will buy it. The only thing stopping it would be the sale price. Not too much at the higher end in terms of effecting the 1199 sales just that they had kept the 848 price nearer the 10k mark to steal sales from the likes of Triumph with their 675 and Suzuki 750 and thats exactly the reason for the MV Augusta F3 price tag. But then again you have the S100rr priced a little less than a base Pani and an R1 isnt far below that and a GXR1000 a little under that. I think it ultimately depends on the depth of your pocket. Everyone wants the most expensive bike but we all have a limit, but everyone has an arm to be twisted and we can all find a way to justify and extra £1000 if spread over 3 yrs....so maybe can also justify £2000 spread over 3 yrs. Just depends how much you want it till that point comes where you can go no higher and thats where you settle. For some its a couple of grand and so they look in the free ads/flea bay, others look in the show rooms and some read the mags for the latest bike, walk into the shop and just put down a deposit.
