New track in Wales

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by El Toro, Jul 11, 2013.

  1. There are no houses around
    Apart from a massive Asda
It's ideal only sheep to be bothered about

  2. No bike trackdays at Thruxton though...

  3. Interestingly enough, a Welsh mate of mine was talking about this today - he drove past it recently... Will it be a success? Who knows... Anyone who's been there knows that "Pembrey" is Welsh for "Middle of bloody nowhere" - hopefully this won't be the same...

  4. The track design looks a lot more interesting than Llandow, which is more like a roundabout than a circuit. Definitely need a new track this side of the country. Just make sure the road signs are bi lingual or no one will be able to find it!

  5. Having read what Jonathoin Palmer actually said, I think he makes a good point. (and to be fair, he knows a damn sight more about motorsport than most of the people who have critisised him ). At a time of recession, motorsport is a luxury. There are tracks all over the UK struggling to get people to attract events or spectators. It will be very dificult to get anyone to go to a new circuit - as has already been said, Rockingham ought to be in a perfect location, and they are struggling. And the estimate of 6000 full-time jobs - that's just cloud-cuckoo land !

  6. But that's like asking the manager of ASDA what he thinks about the proposed new Tesco store being planned

  7. But I don't know the manager at ASDA...........

  8. Nobody's asking you!

  9. Not exactly - it's more like asking the CEO of ASDA what he thinks about a new Tesco. And in doing so you would be asking someone with a far greater understanding of the industry than the average person...

  10. Just like when Donald Trump said he'd be employing 2000 people in his new golf resort in an AONB, Alex Salmond gave the go ahead to spoil the area so a select few could hit a piece of rubber around while having a walk. It now transpires that there were actually only 200 people employed.

  11. Doesnt sound terminal...they'll just have to protect the local worm population by having a 95db limit...

  12. I still can't see how it will "wash it's face". And in todays austere times when councils and governments are flogging everything they can get their hands on to generate cash, then they won't want to be subsiding something as frivolous as a track.

  13. What like the billions going into helping people buy a home?! Private investment with subsidies would be my guess so no different to a million start up companies rolled into one.

  14. But helping people buy a home will eventually generate income and profits across many sectors. This wont.

It's job creation guesstimates are just that........guesstimates....... and will never, ever get close to the forecasted figures.

It's not an essential infrastructure project either. It won't fly.

  15. We i'd rather my tax was spent on this than someone who fancies a 400k home, cant afford the last 25% so I pay for that

  16. I'd rather your tax was spent on essentials like the health service and education.

  17. But its wasted on that already...at least I'd get something back

  18. Helping people buy a home generate income my arse.

  19. Better to have social housing, ie council housing, being built so those at the bottom can claw their way up

when I think about what the generation before me has done to rape and murder the opportunities of the generations after me, it makes me want a magnum
