That is my main mission for these lights, to increase rider visibility without compromising style! I have the Blaster X light on my 848 and it looks OK close up but when you are actually following behind in a car/truck/bike its not that visible and just looks like the tail is flashing (from what everyone that has ridden behind me says). I feel with the blaster you have to sacrifice safety for style. I should hopefully have the final test units in my hands within a few weeks, then i will be ready to launch my crowdfunding campaign to get these into production.
Cool, keep us posted. Have you got a good picture of the rear of your bike, just so i can see how it looks without the original indicators?
Photo Attached. I plan on running my Brakers lights in parallel with the Blaster light so i have twice the visibility.
Shes in the basement for winter so i cant start it up but i can take a side pic on the stands if that's helpful.
Here is a video of all the functions of the lights (youtube image stabilization messed up the video towards the end a little): I'll snap a side pic of the bike shortly.
Side view, had to use flash due to poor lighting in the basement so the tire strips light up in the image.
Looks great Bob, love it with no indicators, nice and clean. Love that colour scheme too, tempted......
I forget which one i got since it was so long ago, but they are all just cheap riveted sheet metal and over priced. I would honestly just make your own its way cheaper. Google around for "diy ducati fender eliminator", there are quite a few creative methods out there which use materials available from most home supply stores. (thin strips of metal, wall corner guards, etc)
I don't think they are legal in most places, but cops will usually only give you a hard time if the plate is hard to see (some people try to bend them down facing the tire so its almost impossible to read the plate from any angle/distance). None of the shops will fail you for the yearly safety inspection for it though, really just an issue if your local police have a problem with it for some reason. Most of the time they will use this to either jack up your fine if they pull you over for speeding, or if they are cutting you a break for speeding they might ticket you for an equipment violation instead of the speeding as its more of a "slap on the wrist" than a speeding fine. My name is Brian BTW , think you got me confused with BobT
They do look good, i like the idea of indicators in the vents, cleans up the back end, would have to blink like the uk spec though, maybe you could produce a cheaper option with just indicators ... will test them for ya lol ... i got 30 years experience in electrical harnesses and control panels
The way they are designed, dropping the brake feature wouldn't really drop the cost at all so it wouldn't be worth it. The lights are designed to simulate the stock bulb resistance so they will flash the same way standard bulbs do (unless you are using the sequential blink mode, then its going to go in the sequence pattern).
Thanks man! Busting my ass to try and get them in peoples hands for Xmas holiday season. Appreciate the kind words, will need all the support i can when i launch the crowdfunding campaign for these. Supporters will be able to get the lights at a steep discount to retail so spread the word if you know any other 848/1x98 owners
