Newbe buying 1000DS...advice please

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by adieboy, Feb 7, 2013.

  1. What you trading for Stuart?

  2. A 2008 Honda CBF 1000

  3. Fair enough mate - no future Dukes in the pipe then? Have to say my experience is of utter reliability (748) which I'm constantly amazed at! Finicky to keep right but reliable without doubt, anyway I'm hi-jacking - good luck with the new one.

  4. There is very little prospect of me purchasing a Ducati in the near future, at least as a road bike. I may be tempted by a Multistrada 1200, in a few years once Audi have sorted the quality control, or an air cooled racer.

  5. WOW!!!
Firstly El Toro, my opening thread was a bit misleading and I should have been more precise and so I apologise profusely...and thanx to all for the input...it's been a religious experience. So much to think about including Stuart F's comments. Nonetheless I love the quirkiness of the 1000 MS and although there are repetitive faults, some make good pets I'm sure. I am going to look at a few in the next week or so and I will report back with (hopefully) pics and a detailed account. I value all your comments and am looking forward to trying your patience with tales and woes for troubles I may have. Keep those comments coming, my 'watch out for' list grows as does my enthusiasm...

  6. I was pulling your leg. I hope you find exactly what you want :upyeah:

  7. Take a look in the classifieds :)

  8. Nice one Crazy...

  9. Hi Adieboy
I commute on mine (84milesround trip) all year round rain or shine just comming up for 100,000miles mines a brillant bike and still loads of life left....for me its keeping up with the worn out tyres, chain and sprockets + petrol.

and then I like to go for a blitz at the weekend to relax.....these are so much fun and you can ride all day

Misty clocks can be dried out but if left too long damage and replacement necessary (I'm on my 3rd set)
For me dissolving wiring (due to salt water ingress) has caused some stops.
Valve guides done on mine at 35,000miles but it was not smoking.

Early (03-05) didn't like empty top boxes left on and the rear frame snaps off

    see you around
    Andy

  10. Thanks Andriod, they're good for the mileage then...different owners, different problems but with the exception of one or two all seem pretty happy with their choice. Corrosion around the engine appears to be a problem and so I saw a front mudguard on a DS which practically encases the front wheel, not sure from which model it was taken but it would reduce the crap from the road being fired up onto the engine. Hopefully should be sorted soon with one, collection and weather hampering ownership at the moment.

  11. the front mudguard mod is the from a monster front guard cut down to make sure the water etc thrown from the wheel goes under the engine.

there is a picture of mine in my gallery on Multistrada.net
