Newbie From France

  1. This is true what you say. But it cost me 1800 euros to matriculate a UK car here 7 years ago. And in the great scheme of things taking insurance into account and having 5 bikes you will be somewhat worse off in France from my experience. For me it was more expensive to insure one superbike in France that it was for 3 bikes and a couple of cars in the UK with an ebike multi-policy (can't remember the car deal).
But to counteract all that stuff, and also in the great scheme of things, you have the French roads in the centre of France to anaesthetise any fiscal "douleur". I think the Romans designed them for their descendents ( ie Ducati :grinning:)

  2. Not at all, 5 bikes would be 5 road taxes in France plus one for the car, 5 MOTs every year for the bikes, and the car only needs one every second year here. The car only cost me €200 to register when new 10 years ago so that is €20 per year. Then there is the price of owning a microlight, £3000+ per year in the UK and about €600 here.
There are many advantages, that is the reason that so many of us live here.
To be fair, if you want to own a tyre ripping expensive sportsbike, you should expect to pay more for registration than you would for a smaller bike. Just the same as the reason that you paid more for your car to register than anyone would for a Renault 5. I am happy with my 848, as the registration was paid last year and that lasts forever, I know that it will cost plenty for tyres and fuel and that will be tons more than the €140 for the registration.
We all have a choice (at the moment) of which country we live in, if money is the driver and the UK was considered cheaper then many ex-pats would move back.

  3. Money is not really a driver but do I know that with my configuration it is definitely more expensive in France from a transport point-of-view - but that's by the by. Sorry I mentioned the prefecture entry charge. It was a kind of joke that obviously fell flat :anguished: My apologies.
