Also, I only got £7500 for my 848 in 2014 when I traded it in, it had 1500 miles on it and was completely perfect, with arrow cans and remap, the dealer sold it for £8750 so I do think this is high.
Another update folks! Was browsing the web last night and came across a local Suzuki dealer that has a 1098 in stock and I had a look at it this morning. It's a 2008 with 13600 miles and is completely standard apart from a carbon rear hugger and tinted screen. It's in really good shape and I couldn't find as much as a stone chip on it. I didn't see the service history but he said that they are always very careful bringing Ducatis in and make sure they have been maintained properly. Would the mileage bother you? £6795 is the asking price. He can offer me stuff £5300 on my blade so I'm looking at a £1500 upgrade. I'm test riding it on Monday (weather permitting). What do we reckon?
13000 miles is fine mate just run in looks a cracking bike, just make sure you see the history before you buy it ,check when the belts have been done also.
Belts are every two years, and I think 7500 mile intervals. Look for evidence that it's had recalls done, possible issues were the plastic belt tensioner which were very quickly replaced and on the 848 issues with radiators. If it's got decent history I'm sure it will be fine
should have been serviced at 7500 miles, belts every 2 years, could be coming up for another service depending on how many miles you do??
Cheers lads. What about oil and filter services? Minimum once a year regardless of mileage? I only do around 1000 dry miles a year with a few track days thrown in.
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works here guys but what do you reckon to this 1198?: DUCATI 1198 2009 £7850.00 | Millsport Motorcycles Ducati Northern Ireland How do they compare to the 1098? Apparently there's £4000 worth of extras on this bike!
Full system accounts for £2500 of that I expect. It's not hard to rack up £10k on extras if DP carbon is added and all for little benefit. I'd go for the newest 1198 in red you can afford. Ideally with termi.
Also have a quick look at the position of the steering damper. Make sure there's at least a bit of a gap between damper fixing bracket and the tank. These bikes sometimes suffer from the tanks swelling.
Yep that looks like a good solid bike, and yes the exhaust alone was £2600! I would look at it but check with a torch that all the panels are the same colour as u may not be able to se under dealer lights. Ps, it's likely to be clean coming from a main dealer! It's a long way from the 848 u started with but still better value, the 1198 is lighter than the 1098 as well by a few kilos (not a deal breaker). This should be a step up in performance from the fireblade tbh, more torque everywhere in the range
Hi again folks. The 1198 linked above turns out to be sold. The sales manager said that contrary to what the photos suggest, it was a bit rough anyway. Had another look at the 848 evo this morning and really liked it. Really don't know what to do! I'm torn between the 1098 and the 848 Evo! 2008 - 13,600 miles - £1500 upgrade: 2014 - 300 miles - £4000 upgrade:
Why the rush to buy something mate? Better to wait and buy a peach surely? I know we've said it many times, but that 848 seems pricey to me! It's 899 money really...
Personally I would get the 848 but it just needs to not be so much money... For that money, this would be my pick, has the bigger tank I think, definitely has quickshifter and lovely full exhaust system and Ohlins rear shock Ducati 848 EVO Corse SE (JUST 3,626 MILES, Termis & More. Gorgeous Bike!) | eBay
Cheers for the replies. I'm in no rush but being from Northern Ireland, the selection of bikes is limited. Going to GB for a bike with a few nice extras would negate a lot of the saving as it would cost around £500 to get across and back plus I'd lose 2 days work. Just got a message from the sales manager to say he had another look at the deal and could go to £3500 on top of my blade for the 848 evo.
I guess at the end of the day mate, it's your decision. If you're going to keep it for a while that 848 is a good little buy with that mileage ! My worry is, again depending on what kind of rider you are, that you'll find the 848 a bit 'gutless' compared to your Blade... But it's a completely different ride.
