I specifically want the 748,916,996,998 shape and style, always liked them. I wouldn't want any other bike. I could afford a 916s now but for my intentions and have been looking. I'm perhaps better off holding out for a SPS or R. I'm thinking of it more like a classic really, not as an investment but just to own something a bit different. It's not about kudos I don't care what others think. It's what I want to take up the space in my garage and motivates me to spend/money and time cleaning and maintaining (personal preference) it needs to be special to me. I don't care for the lastest R1 but I'd buy a Repsol Blade with under seat pipe because I like it - that's where I am at now. Bikes don't have the same appeal they once did, same as cars. I'd love a 2.7 RS 911 or RSR but not interested in any of the new ones. I just like the idea of having something nice for those sunny days etc. maybe some Duke meetings / social events... I'm not saying I won't ride it with some enthusiasm at some point but I am hoping it's good looks etc help me treat it with more respect than some of the bikes I've owned in the past.
998 of any discription in this order of cost - usually the first of a breed are worth more but in this instance the 998 is more generally speaking due to the better engine (aside from 955's and Foggy Reps which are astronomical on values now) 998 bip 998 mono 998S bip 998S mono 998S bip FE 998 mono FE 996R (998 engine) 998R There are subtle differences within this list like Ohlins forks on some S's and ltd edition colour schemes. Looks like I've just bought a Ducati 998s mono (Exige I blame you, your post was very helpful) It seems like the best route for me. Money has changed hands. It comes with a service/new belts 12 month mot and bit of warranty.

It may have been converted but how do I tell? how do I tell if it's actually a genuine s? It looks exactly like one, all the photos etc of that model on line are the same. I'm happy with the deal regardless. I would not have bought if it was not serviced, with some come back. May have to ask if one of you guys (south east midlands / north south east) will take a look a closer look at it for me see what you think.. Perhaps buy you lunch of something, flowers, candles and McDonald's
Genuine S will have a "deep sump motor", the bottom of the motors casting should have a pronounced V shape to it whereas a standard 998 has a flat bottom
Defo worth the money! I had some on my 848 and it made starting easier. Last night I put some on my 998s and they made a world of difference. Not surprising really when you compare @Exige 's cables to the originals. Just a shame I'll have to pull them all off this aft! :Banghead: Congrats on the bike. Wise move
can anyone recommend a good insurance company to try? I am with bennetts 35 years old, 4 years no claims - which will be 5 years very soon. My current policy under-writer for my modified R6 won't insure it and Bennetts want £266 for it. I want to check to see if I can get it cheaper? fully comp, single bike policy but ride other peoples bikes.
I went with carol Nash as recommended by another forum member. I was with bennetts before but CN were cheaper and more importantly, didn't need an immobiliser fitting whereas bennetts did.
It is red! I do like the yellow very much and have thought about it but it's perhaps a little bit too in your face for me. Would it narrow the market down for resale - not sure. I appreciate these bikes get noticed but I guess I am just not really one for bright colours.
