Great tip. Both my cars have the stuff that you squirt in rather than a jack and spare! I trip to halfords should get me one for a tenner. Thanks for that.
I went to lock tight mine today and couldn't find the lock tight so have just gone with the recommended 45nm and will check them in 500 miles. Today was a terrible day to test the bike, I was in jeans and trainers having just finished it and it's wet and greasy out. I can definitely feel more, the biggest difference was under power though where it feels more plush. Honestly it's not the instant revelation I was hoping for, but I think I need to reserve judgement until I can get out for 40-50 miles and get some heat into tyres etc. I can definitely feel more of what the rear tyre is doing though, it might have felt much worse today with the old set up so I just need to get used too it I think.
Yeah I'm sure you'll notice more of a difference when you're able to give the bike a bit more stick and the weather is better. I was hoping to get out today, but the weather is awful again. Don't get me wrong, I'll ride in the wet if I have to, but it's pointless tip-toeing around trying to gauge what the Nitron is like.
Well. One of the thing I like about the nitron is that you can turn it into an r3 when you service it and add the hpa also. (something I'll be doing to my race pro when it goes in next).
Don't see a need for HPA, it's not like I ever take a pillion so won't need to ever touch it, but having it upgraded to a R3 as part of the 'service' sounds appealing [emoji106]
I got the hpa on the zed as the other end is buried right underneath the subframe so the top collar I can't get to without taking the shock out... On the rsv4....sheer fucking bling!
So I managed to get out on the bike today to see what the R1 is like. Conditions were damp-ish but also dry in places. I stuck the tyre warmers on for an hour beforehand just so I didn't have to worry about bringing them up to temp. I have a twisty national speed limit road 30 seconds from my house, so I wanted to arrive there knowing the tyres were warm. I must say I think the R1 is brilliant! It was immediately obvious that something was very different. It's like when you get a set of brand new tyres, the bike just felt alive. It is definitely more compliant and makes for a much much smoother ride. It was bizarre, I actually thought for a second that my tyre pressures were too low, but what that was, was just the rear shock actually absorbing the bumps in the road. So instead of being thrown about everywhere, the bike now glides over the top. It has made the bike far more confidence inspiring. Magical. I wish I'd upgraded earlier. The trouble I have now though is that it highlights the issues with the front end even more! But yes, very very good so far. I can't wait for some better weather and a proper run.
Use some footpeg stands....they slide over the footpegs and hold the bike up....no need for straps and what not then....if I can find a pic of mine ill put it up...
yep - on my rsv4 the first thing I noticed was comfort....usually an hour on it will leave me with a bit of a sore one I was out on it that first day for over 2 hours...
That is exactly the same way I felt when I fitted the ttx on my 899 and the more you push the better it gets, it's just inspires you with confidence, I think the rear shocks on the base panigales are shite, bet you can't wait to get the front sorted.
I bet the Ohlins front/rear on yours feel awesome. You're right, I'm looking forward to getting the front end sorted, although I'm not sure what can be done without a cartridge kit. I'm hoping MCT can work some magic without resorting to that, but I need to send them off and see what they say.
I am also hoping that the rear offers a similar improvement having had it rebuilt. I agree with the comments about the front, I stuck an Ohlins in the rear of my Daytona and suddenly the front felt terrible! I think though that an oil change would be the biggest bang for buck improvement to start with from reading what MCT say. Anyway, can't wait to get out myself and do some proper mileage
that sounds a good option if those things exist. I did it with the scissor jack between the rear tyre and subframe. Worked a treat. Now just need to get the shock set up and a set of 30mm cartridges in the front!
They do... Here you go... Gee-Tech-fabrications. A lad on Facebook makes them to order... Beautiful welding Gee-Tech fabrications
Here's another example of Nitron's exquisite customer service. They saw this thread and contacted me to say that I should have received a shock guard mount and if I wanted one they'd pop one in the post. Sure enough, here it is...
