No Limits - Snett 300 - Sun 18/8 and Mon 19/8

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Dibble, Jun 14, 2013.

  1. 'Scuse my hignorance...........but I have to ask..........

Why do you lot spend so much on trackdays (which from reading the posts gives me the impression that it has become very competitive out there) when club race fees are similar?

My overall impression of Sunday at Snetterton, was that there were loads of race bikes taking part and some bl**dy good riding from people that may or may not have been racers, but in the end there appeared to be no overall race winner.

Although I used to do several practice days (for sidecars), I don't think I would have been happy spending the same amount of dosh to belt around the track unless it was actually for a proper race.

    No digs, just asking, like.

  2. Its a fair question, and from my perspective, I've never had any inclination to compete on bikes, I guess as I have got older I have got more risk averse, I love competition and sport and have played both football and rugby to a reasonably high standard but have never really been that driven when it comes to individual sports, i enjoy them but I'm not the most motivated person to win when competing solo.

I do however love riding bikes, love trackdays, the ability to use the bike without restriction and the banter and social side....

Horses for courses I think .....

  3. I reckon you should compete Dibble.............You could always pick up a trophy by staying at the back..........

..............that's how we got so many trophies because we waited for everyone else to break down.....

  4. Don't compete unless winnings an option / possibility ....

  5. Trackdays are like a run down your favourite road, over and over, but add a little 'friendly' competition/challenge. They are nothing like test days or race days (for me) and nor should they be

And the costs are very different. Race weekend is like this (minus getting there/back)
    - test day £100
    - £220 race entry gets you one timined practice, 3 c15 minute races, 1 10 min warm up
    - a set of tyres - even DD lots of guys use a set a round
    - bike fuel £70-80

    Snetterton got me:
    - £229 for two days
    -14 x 20 min sessions
    - a set of used tyres which I bought for £100 and will do at least another td

So cost wise its far less for more time

Plus there is only the pressure you put on you. Race day has a whole load of extra pressure

I dont fnd trackdays as much fun as I did, mainly because my mates all choose inters ;-) but its still fun

  6. Cadwell Park 14th & 15th September BMCRC Two day Race Entry Fee £240..........that should get you 4 races.......Add another class for £50 so that's another 4 races..........Total 8 races for £290.............

............or take up sidecars, Bradders...........F2 £100...............and F1 Free!!

PS.....The only extra pressure I got was when I was all togged up with about two minutes to be called to the collection area, he used to whip the fairing off and start fiddling with the bl**dy carbs.

  7. That's coz all you had to do wad sur there, your mate did the riding ;-p

  8. Did you mean to say "was sit there"?..............If so, you can p*ss off............I could turn that thing quicker than he could......

(I liked doing that.......especially when he was ready for it.......)

And without me, he couldn't stop the b*gger...........He relied on my crash helmet against the rear wheel.

  9. Those that can, race ..... those that can't are called passengers ... xx

  10. I did drive occassionally............and I have soloed.......

But if you think you could passenger..........feel free....The drivers are always willing to give a new idiot a trial to see if they can stay on....

PS....Notice who is behind me in the first one?

  15. Why can't people get the other side of the chain link fencing to take the photos?

I didn't think it rained that heavily on Sunday....

  16. Hi Bradders, did you get yourself sorted? And did you get to follow that guy round? Next time you guys are up here I will make sure I have more time to spend with you, and its my turn to make the tea! Chris

  18. I rather like the way your lines get noticeably better with each successive lap, mainly.

  19. My lines are pretty good around most tracks I've ridden, so I'm told, but they are small bike lines ie lots of corner speed, no point and squirt. Plus unless you are going quick enough the wide fast lines dont work. Didnt get turn 1 right once nor corams. Frustrating as they are 'my corners' where I caught most others and made some decent time up. Must try far harder next time...if I'm going to get sub 2'05

  20. Looked good to me, but what do I know! Lets just say that I don't think I'd ever be troubling you on track. Glad you got yourself sorted and just from what you were saying to me, it seems the change from the duke to the gixxer has now been overcome. A few more days and I'm sure it'll be second nature!
