I'm going to pull another switch, just for the sake of it, and see if I can get it to move. I can't do it on the removed or the new one as that bike's now gone back to it's owner complete with all parts that were removed and replaced (i already have enough used cam belts and oil filters)
I can see some value in members performing a brinell hardness test on their best dining table with an oily Ducati neutral switch and providing feedback on both the hardness results as well as any (albeit unlikely) domestic fallout.
I have recently purchased a 2005 ST4S with 24000 Kms and I am having the same issue as West Cork Paul . I got a new neutral switch off ebay but it hasn't cured the issue . If I ground the switch the green light on the dash works but not when it is put back in the engine . West Cork Paul did you resolve the problem ?
Yes I did, see post #10 above . But basically The bike was on the lift whilst I was working on it with the rear wheel off the ground, the rear wheel turned freely unless I moved the gear lever up or down and selected a gear. I therefore assumed it was in neutral. It’s only when I took it off the lift and went to road test it after the service I realised it was in neutral just not THE neutral . It was in a false neutral between 3rd & 4th gears - duhhh, what an eejit. It’s no wonder the neutral light didn’t come on, there’s no raised cam on the gears at that point to make contact with the neutral switch and ground the circuit. What a waste of time - lesson learned.
