Noob question

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Tedward, Nov 13, 2012.

  1. 796 if the choice between the two you mention - 1100 if you can get a lower mileage tidier one

  2. Agree with Desmoboy the decision may well be made for you, especially when you start increasing Cc capacity as new rider.

Regardless i'd go for the 796 if town is to be your playground.

  3. I'll say the 796.....only cause I get the feeling that's what you really want people to say......

And the 796 makes miles more sence for a wee bloke around town.....

  4. Thanks for all the responses. Will call them both and see how I get on negotiation wise...

If they come up for the same money i'll go for the 796..

  5. Seriously, insurance quote first.

  6. Hey - yep got quotes for both over the weekend. Both ok, about 15% difference in favour (unsuprisingly) of the 796. Have done IAM and Bikesafe which seems to have helped a bit.

  7. Welcome Ted

796 for sure!! completely biased opinion as i have one and never ridden 1100 so not much help with your dilemma  sorry
I can tell you they are fine around town, even on charity runs etc loads of miles at walking pace, fabulous and friendly on twisties, not a missile by any stretch but the power does keep coming and they like you to rev 'em. Sound wise Termis are ace (I have arrow cans) sure you will love the tune! 796 is the code for FUN  I will stop gushing now and wish you best of luck

  8. Cool Ted, still say 796 if you mostly ride in town but at least the insurance isn't a barrier.

  9. That looks great, what do the arrows sound like? Will call the dealer today..

  10. I had an Arrow on my GSXR1000K6 - sounded awesome!

  11. 796 sold out from underneath me! 1100 it is!

  12. Thanks Matt - bit out of my price range though sadly.

Went for it - grabbing it tonight. Thank you so much to everyone who commented, I read everything carefully and although the 796 might have been a little more sensible, i'll be careful and hopefully keep learning and progressing as a rider.

Mega friendly forum, and I will stick around, if you don't mind!!

  13. Personally i'd choose a tidy 796 as it'll still be plenty quick enough. Remember, power isn't everything, i've had more fun on my 600 Monster than bikes twice the capacity, and you say you've only been riding 4 months!!!! Jeez, you'll learn so much more progressing up on bikes than you will going straight for a big engined one.

  14. So you think, sucker

  15. Merci  I bought them because they were carbon and I have a serious problem with carbon fibre bling things! To be honest they are not as loud or deep as i thought they would be so we took baffles out and OMG  (maybe next spring), so we drilled em and cut 'em down a bit, now sound awesome! :upyeah:
Congrats on the 1100 well and truly in the fold now!!

All good... It sounds wonderful, is pretty punchy and i'm absolutely loving it! Getting used to the torque, so much fun. Quite a lot of power admittedly, but i'm being sensible.

Potentially it needs a bit more carbon fibre I think!

    Thanks again to all.

  18. Nice. Be safe and enjoy! :upyeah:

  19. And after all that, I am going to sell the bike! Am after a sportsbike and something more chilled out, so I can do the odd track day and enjoy the benefits of a fairing on the motorway, but also recognising that I spend 99% of my time riding around central London, often with a pillion. I am a very new user of the forum but if anyone wants a nice monster I am open to offers.Thinking 749 next, in the summer..
