Norton Deposit Info, It's Demise & It’s New Owners

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by John W, Oct 16, 2018.

  1. @Biot That's not even the half of it! The leadership team needs a whiff of the smelling salts

  2. Be interesting to see if Garner shows his face @ the NEC , I for one have a few questions I want to put to him .

  3. I put my £2K deposit down on 11.18, at 06.19 I rang to ask if they had a record of my deposit as I'd not heard anything....Instagram is alight with "now in production"....they're not!

  4. @mvman Garner will, I guarantee it, he needs to drum up shareholders!

  5. All the info I know about Norton Motorcycles issues has come from here, the web and companies house.
None of what I’ve read fills me with confidence on how a manufacturing enterprise should be run. A real shame.

  6. @Biot it is a shame, as an employee who's company has just been taken over by a competitor I can tell you first hand that the guys on the shop floor would have a better clue about how to run the business than so called leadership team. It's the boys and girls that depend on the company to pay their mortgages that I feel sorry for.

  7. Yeah I got a clue of emails inviting me to a meeting. Not going though as it clashes with other commitments, plus it's a 3 hour drive each way.
I did read somewhere that they are now trying to drum up investors. The problem is that they have a severe lack of documentation to show any investment is a sound proposition.
Pretty certain now that I will pull my deposit in the near future unless something changes.

  8. iirc that pension fund is a major investor/shareholder in the holding co that owns the manufacturing co. The question is, were the trustees slow in doing what was asked because they are administratively inept or was it because they don’t have the free cash available to make transfers out and have a somewhat illiquid investment pool. Very serious if it’s the latter.

  10. Does anyone know if the V4r has actually gone into production yet?

  11. Doesn't sound like it
    On either count

  12. I got blocked by him for replying to someones tweet (which I took Norton out of so I wasn't inflammatory) just saying that I thought it was all a little on the edge (reference the pension fund thing) and yeah, he found my account and blocked me..

TBH I hope it all goes to sh*t for him, I just hope that the customers with money invested and the staff aren't the ones left carrying the can!

I'm no financial expert, but I would imagine that nobody would advise people to 'invest' in Norton as he's advertising, you'd be better off investing in sand shipments to Egypt...

  13. I only know a very small part of the story from secondhand internet reports. If I were a betting man I'm not at all certain I would put my money on Nortons future.

But Garner won't be any better or worse than most other so called entrepreneurs. I definitely hope all Nortons troubles are turned around and the business is a massive sucess for the employees & the customers.

  14. Trouble is Jez if it is turned and become a big success, it will probably end up in Thailand being produced ( Triumph).

  15. Spoiler: it will be.

  16. @portboy
Then China. Followed by India in 10 years time, then Africa 10 years after that.
Europe & N. America will be too expensive in terms of labour costs, environmental legislation and the like. For most mass produced mechanical items.

  17. yes it's all cyclic chasing the dollar around the pacific rim until they become financially world dominate and then we will be setting up sweat shops here.

  18. Though there are two things to add.
    1. We will probably be dead before then.
    2. They will only be doing to us, what we are happy to do to them today.

I hope they enjoy their "iphones".
