Norton Deposit Info, It's Demise & It’s New Owners

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by John W, Oct 16, 2018.

  1. Metro pulled the plug. Had massive preferential charges on the Norton related companies. HMRC are small fry in comparison. Not forgetting >2.3m of taxpayers non recoverable which yielded SFA courtesy of the non existent acadamy. The Spondon conversion into a housing estate was one of his neatest accomplishments, albeit the pensions diversion was an interesting one... that was >8m.

Then there's the interesting way SVAs, homologation, and warranty bikes were handled. It's the story that keeps on giving, watch this space.

  2. The Priest House Hotel accounts were due last November and still haven't been filed. I think that is where the Hall is part of the assets. All the assets are covered by secured loans.

I wonder if the auditors refused to sign the accounts this year.

  3. They're all gone into admin, Priest House included.
The last set of filed accounts flagged it.

  4. I kicked that off a month ago Steve hopefully I can get my deposit back, a £2k, 2 year loan for the swine. I’m feeling angry at myself and sad the brand ended up with a circus of a management team. Good luck yourself

  5. blind man galloping horse !!!!! sorry to the lads here who lost money but theres always skum out to make a quick buck !

  6. Anyone with a deposit down, paid by credit card will have full protection under section 75. My claim is in process....

  9. On your credit card or paid cash over?

  10. Luckily I’m only in for £500 as I ordered the superlight they wanted £2500 at the time but as I only had a debit card on me at the time they accepted £500 this was in October 2018

  11. luckily part credit card then debit card

  12. Rotten news, feel genuinely sad for the employees and customers, the new model range looked great, I’ve met a lot of the employees over the last few years and to a man/woman they were good people, I suppose someone like Bloor could end up with the Norton name but the “factory” is finished, really bad news all round.

  13. Such a shame for all those waiting patiently for their bikes to be delivered and for all those employees who will
Lose their jobs. I hope somebody sensible buys the name and makes it in to a reputable company as people will tread carefully around this kind of outfit again.

  14. I used to review companies for a large multinational.
I had a factory visit at Norton a while ago (personal interest only) I thought at the time it just coudnt succeed the way it was being run.
What a tragedy for customers, employees and creditors.

  15. I truly wish you luck in getting your money back but methinks you'll struggle with the debit card payment (though I'm not a 100% sure on this) as the VAT & IR will have first call on whatever's left, and the banks will have second call. Other creditors including people that have handed over cash will be way down the pecking order :(

  16. What a terrible shame, it’s been expected for a while sadly.
I hope John Bloor picks up the name, imagine what he could do.
So sorry for all the customers and staff, apart from one of course!

  17. Mine was November ‘18 at the NEC show, paid by credit card luckily, or so I hope. Went I went to the farcical open evening calling all would be investors there were a few gents in for £50-£60K. And to think I nearly stuck another few K in for shares but something inside me said don’t do it. I hope Norton gets saved and run by proper, decent sensible business people. Size of wallet doesn’t always relate to IQ Norton were being run by clueless monkeys

totally agree ^, this from 2012 - apologies if linked already:- Terblanche walking away quote said "disasterous" , "Egli, Gentil and Gibson all cited difficulties with Garner as being central to the demise of their relationship with the company."

  20. Good! I didn’t know whether debit cards were dealt with in the same way as credit cards. If that is the case then that is great news :upyeah:
