I'm amazed that the Dealer isn't prepared to look at this. I would think you would have a good case for the sale of goods act. The item failed only 1 month after you bought it? Had you tightened the chain yourself or anything since you bought it? Try Citizens advice...
Hi, All I have done is cleaned it and put fuel in it. originally the dealer said he'd pay the labour if i paid the parts £1250 but the dealer has withdrawn the offer now, so I have contacted Ducati and they are looking into it. I'm not sure what they will or can do. The chain broke the engine casing you see, hence the cost is a lot. Citizens advice gave me a letter to send, I will if I don't get any help from Ducati. Thanks for the advice though. Mark.
Is there no warranty from the dealer, you would normally expect at least 3 months from any bike shop, something wrong there buddy. As part of their sale they would have inspected the chain. In your situation i would certainly be demanding the damage put right. TBH the contract of sale is between you and the shop, not Ducati UK,although they can do a little arm twisting. If its the original chain then 9000 miles would be its life expectancy, what condition are the sprockets in, if very good then that shows recently renewed.
Things must have changed recently? When my 2010 S was off the road for 6 months, as they couldn't supply the single spark cylinder heads anymore, I didn't get so much as an apology, never mind free trinkets!
I know the deal here is replacing the smashed casing, but why has the chain failed ? If you look at it, has the soft-link broken, or some other link in the chain ? As its only done 9k I would expect it to still be on the original chain. Check the history / bills to see if it has had it replaced, or maybe the front sprocket was worn and replaced. I've not received any trinkets either over the last ~18 years of Ducati ownership
