Everything except Pre-load to 1 - you still need to set the pre-load for each mode to your preference; http://store.proitalia.com/media/downloads/instructions/35000-03-instructions.pdf
I think that's incorrect advice - you set compression and rebound to 1, but the pre-load you have to either leave at factory values or whatever you have adjusted it to for personal preference. The SCU does not deal with pre-load - which makes sense if you think about it as this isn't something you want to adjust constantly on the move.
Technomad, the stiffer spring is a ducati listed part, it's on their microfiche, so the dealer should fit it without question. Both p&h and snells supply & fit down here, can't help you up there. Hope all is well mate
I'm down there, you're up there; unless there's been one of those disaster magnetic pole reversal events or you've skinned up a big un' and lost the old direction finder. All good JW. You? I'll contact the lads at my local spanner house and get them to quote the part. Might help if I nip up the pre-load too on existing unit.
MJW, I was posting in response to #16 above made by Technomad. Assuming it is the same guy (Richard H). he used to live close to me and belong to same club. He is in scotland, so is 'up there' from me I put an extra 3mm of preload on my last bike by adjusting the spring platform when the preload adjuster was rebuilt. It was better for two up with luggage. I put an extra 5mm (from standard) on my current bike, and to be honest I think this makes it a bit too firm for solo riding, so going to back it off a bit. Looking to order the Ohlins SCU shortly to give it a try. Might try adding a bit more fork preload next...
Hi John, It certainly is me - still bimbling around the Highlands and still on my '10 'Strada, despite having developed a bad 911 habit in the last couple of years ;-) Very well here and hope you're likewise. Missing the WVAM craic though. I have however finally got my Öhlins SCU and installed it yesterday. Thoughts at Analogue vs Digital, Part 3: Rise of The Mechatronics | Ducati Diary - in short, even with a good personal setup, I think it's something of a no-brainer and, if you're still on the factory settings, it's a definite no-brainer. I ordered the 100Nm rear spring at the same time - now just got to find someone who can fit it NoWG.
Does anyone know what the stock Preload figures are, I cannot get mine back on the Dash after disconnecting the neg cable ..I thought everything went back to default after doing this, I should of made a note of them
default figures are given on andys site motorcycleinfo somewhere in a spreadsheet. here you go: Motorcycle Info Pages - 'How to' & FAQs > DES Suspension http://www.mts1200.info/motorcyclei...200/other/MTS1200_DES_Suspension_Settings.xls
Sorted it John, easy enough just go to default on the dash setup doh. Handy to see that info mate, cheers
A couple of weeks in to the Ohlins SCU, and I've: had the 100Nm rear spring fitted, done a few hundred road miles and one track evening at Knockhill (albeit an IAM 'skills' evening, so good fun, if not exactly ballistic) and you can colour me impressed. Whatever sensing data the Ohlins is using (and I'd love to know), it seems to just work, giving great response over a much wider range of conditions than any of my manual settings. One thing that I've gleaned from reading the manual (sad but true) is that the Ohlins SCU appears to know nothing about the Ducati riding modes, presumably because they're not broadcast over the CANbus - instead, it varies its algorithms according to which engine map you're using. What that does do is lose the ability to, say, run the Touring map with sport suspension settings and obviously it doesn't differentiate twixt enduro and urban. Which is fine by me, as I use the Urban group to store my best manual settings for comparison. What's been really interesting is how well the bike rides off-road in Enduro settings - brilliantly - magic carpet ride on our local tracks. And in fact Enduro becomes a nice, relaxed road-riding mode as the SCU seems to cope very well with a much broader range of conditions. Best ride so far was a run home through Glen Devon coming back from Knockhill - although the road surface was pretty variable and distinctly crappy in places, the bike just felt completely tied down, supple and relaxed. I haven't ridden mine back-to-back with a current-gen Skyhook MTS but I'm hoping to arrange that in the near future.
And here's a tip for anyone who changes the rear spring after installing the Öhlins SCU: disconnect the battery negative terminal for a few seconds after doing so - this forces the SCU to recalibrate the preload adjustment by cycling the adjuster through its full working range. Before I did so, I was getting slightly strange changes to preload when switching modes, along with a couple of "DES Preload" error messages. After disconnection/reconnection, the SCU ran the preload adjuster through two full cycles of the adjuster and I've (so far) not had any issues since.
