999 Oil (again)

  1. I like that remark.
People choose their oil very carefully between all the very expensive synthetic oils, but in truth there is probably less than 0.001% difference in any of those oils so very little wear will occur whichever you choose, then they go and stick a crappy old 20/50 mineral in for 50 miles that could cause more wear in those 50 miles than a synthetic would wear in 10,000 miles. The 20/50 is so thick when it is cold that it has difficulty circulating the around the engine after it has been started that even more wear happens.
When you change the oil after the 50 miles with the £2 a gallon 20/50, make sure that you blow all of the oil ways and the oil cooler out because there will be enough of that rubbish left in there to dilute/contaminate the nice expensive Motul that you put in afterwards.

  2. Well I wont be blowing it all out so have i just wasted £16 on oil i can't use?

Guess I could use it for soaking bits in.

  3. Your bike so it is fine to use whatever oil that you want in it. Dry sump engines were much easier to get all of the old oil out of but modern engines are not. For £16 (€20) I can buy 5 litres of cheap fully synthetic which would be better to use as a flushing oil and it is probably as good as the nice expensive Motul that people seem to use.
