I don't know, I saw this in Dubai recently. Mind you it could have been the British team on Warm Weather training
Billions have been spent on hosting the olympics, and there's no way a bit of short-term tourism is gonna cover the costs. We'll be paying this off for decades to come. And why put it in the shit end of London? The east end's hardly a tourist attraction...
The way they're going at the moment, the police are gonna screw it up for everyone. London was at a standstill today, coppers and ANPR cameras everywhere. Over-zealousness done the way only the british can do it. It's not helped by the fact every main road is being hastily dug up and repaired prior to the olympics. As if people are gonna drive to see it...
But look at it this way, if we weren't paying for the Olympics, we'd only be giving the same amount of money to India to finance it's space programme or some random African general/king/dictator so that he could replace his fleet of mercs and private jets. Oh, I forgot we're still doing that anyway...
Knowing exactly how much effort goes into training for it, I am looking forward to it. I will however only be watching on TV as I think the cost of the tickets for such a short viewing window is extortionate. Will it be good for the country, I don't know only time will tell, Sydney was a fantastic Olympics, but they will always be famous as the bed bug city.
I`m looking forward to it, just as much as the Eurovision song contest this weekend! Cum on Humperdinck give um what for
I may be a Brit but I'm quite happy I'm not there. I wasn't in favour of it in the first place. It was never going to be cheap. Let's just pray there isn't a terrorist attack. As for everyone paying top dollar for tickets to events they wouldn't even have turned the TV on for... Well you've got to laff haven't you?
So let me get it right, if everyone hates it so much and will not to WTH I could not get all the tickets I want?
Yeah, s'all good innit, plod'l be loving the overtime, c'mon, the sun's shining  Something to watch when the drought returns
Why couldnt you get tickets Luca? That'll be because the government gave them away to companies, ministers and oil barrons as back scratchers. Nice to see we are all in the same ball park everyone!
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a Motor Olympics? MotoGP, motocross, etc for bikes, F1 & rallying for cars, drag racing & hillclimbs for both, powerboats, jetskis, aerobatic planes … every type of motor-powered sport with all the capacity classes and race distances for each discipline. That I would pay to watch! Coming back to earth, the trouble is MotorOlympics would be much bigger, more expensive and more complicated to stage than the slow, quiet pedestrian sports this year’s Olympics are restricted to. It would be on too big a scale for any city to afford to stage it. Just a dream…
I'm loving that idea Pete, but the biggest hurdle there is the terrain. If it was tarmac-based you could hold it on maybe 3 circuits in any country. But once you introduce boats, planes and rally cars, you're talking major logistics. And of course you'd have to square up to the green lobby these days...
Corrected for you. I could have a compromise on that idea. Monaco style F1 race in London city centre, including other car races. IOM TT style race in the Richmond area, off road in Richmond park or Alexandra Palace, we could do drags there as well. Boats on Thames and Red Bull air race can stay where it is.
