It’s only money… maybe I’m lucky and can afford what I want (within reason). However every time I bought the sensible ‘practical’ choice I regretted it and sold it soon after.
But equally I’d not want to waste my money on Pikes Peaks RS’s and other overpriced Ducati ‘specials’, but I understand that some might still want to...
I've found this to be true... though I also do the financial / mental gymnastics in my head that ends up justifying it! i.e. some bikes i've bought might have cost more, suffered worse depreciation, had more expensive services... so in absolute terms the cost of ownership has been higher than versus alternatives. But when I work out the cost per mile of owning my bikes, because those 'wow' factor bikes have lured me out the house to ride on days I might otherwise have given it a miss, i've ended up riding them more often, putting more miles on them. So in cost per mile terms its actually been less expensive. Well that's how i've ended up rationalising some bike purchases i've made anyway!
I’ve yet to apply any kind of rationale when buying motorbikes. Applies to many other things too. It’s a simple case of establishing that ‘I want it’ which then rapidly becomes ‘I need it!’.
Finally picked up the bike (MSV4 GT) from M&P Cardiff on Tuesday and put the first 60 miles on it..................in the pouring rain! Must say, great customer service from M & P. Despite the rain, I really enjoyed the ride home (the very long way) and the bike appears to offer far more weather protection than the ZSX. It also feels lighter to ride, however, when you stop, physics kicks in and 'short legs x heavy bike = no reverse parking on an uphill slope' I also get the point from other posters, about how dirty the back end gets Unfortunately, during the ride home, the Cruise Control indicator turned red and the general warning light came on. I tried cleaning the radar, looked at and jiggled all connectors but to no avail. Again, M & P were great and told me to bring it in at my earliest convenience.
Dont think it would have been unreasonable for you to ask them to come and get it if youve just bought a new bike and not even managed to get it home without a warning light appearing. Maybe that's just me. (Congrats btw.)
I agree I bought a brand new Triumph T595 develop an issue EML light on, I’d had it probably a couple of weeks. The dealer (Greens if Longton) picked it up in their van fixed it and returned it. Was just a dodgy coil connection that threw the EML light. They were a pretty decent Multi Franchise dealer. Ducati, Bimota, Suzuki and Triumph.
I'm sure they would have, if I had asked. Gives me an excuse to put some more mileage on it, as I need it run in and serviced before a tour at the end of April.
Took the bike out yesterday, to put some miles on it, and at about 70 miles on the clock, the fault disappeared. Emptied the first tank. After 162 miles, I filled up, with a range of 2 miles showing on the dash and squeezed in 19.93L. That was a bit of a shock (but no surprise), as I was taking it easy (new bike & still very wet) and I used to get about 200miles out of a 19L tank on the ZSX. Thanks to this forum, I was forewarned.
my v4s radar sometimes faults if the front or rear sensor pads get very dirty so keep a check on them. Once cleaned the fault goes away
So I took the bike in yesterday and it turns out it was the tyre pressure monitors were not properly registering. Apparently, if any of the inputs to the IMU are in fault, the cruise control won't work, for safety reasons.
