I suppose it depends how much you want the bike? Quite a few dealers like that these days, they don't care, there attitude is if you don't buy it someone else will.
Agreed, but still surprised that no attempt was made, only “that’s the best part-ex value”, and “this is very cheap”.
All of this ^^^^^^^^^ Excellent summary. Only addition i would be concerned about, if the exhausts had just been bolted on and not had the eprom to match or some other ‘mapping’. This is an example of just bolting everything on to a bike without a plan for the end result. In balance, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
At least that part is satisfactory. The Termi silencers have the appropriate EPROM. The cosmetic awfulness I can deal with. Apparently the forks are OK with no corrosion.
OP how you getting on? have you seen anything privately thats interesting or do you have a preference for a dealer-bought bike for warranty, finance etc?
I have a Hypermotard SP 2014 with 17000 miles which is simply not getting used. I’m considering advertising it for private sale, on here, DOCGB etc. I was taking the easy way by offering it as part-ex. No preference for dealer bikes.
Much of what's said is on the consumables that you would probably be looking to service with a new bike anyhow. And then of course the tasteless bling and wheels colour. Those are a fairly easy to correct. The bike has carbon air runners, ohlins rear shock (and those go for much money now), termis (assuming you have the standard exhaust too). Those are nice upgrades on a 996.
Agreed with all so far. What’s dissuading me from travelling hours to view is the intransigence of the vendor. Perhaps I’ll just take some images of my Hyper SP and offer it on here. (Petulant huff? Probably )
To be honest - they probably get a lot of people calling out bargaining on the phone. In my experience as a seller, you automatically assume that the people are here to waste your time. If you want a deal, you have to go, cash in the pocket or ready for a transfer and you call you price right there. The seller then knows I have this bird in the hand or a few in the bush. Of course, you need to be in a position to do that.
Hi, I couldn't agree more, personally I would give it a wide berth, too many non original parts, sets the bells ringing….as for the wheels You clearly only get what you pay for. I have an original's 916 Bip with low milage what has been pampered that will be entering the market this week for a reasonable price. Owned it for 20yrs, went up for sale last year but didn’t sell due to time wasters and scammers. I will listen to sensible offers.
I agree, but times are a-changin'. (We will discuss There/Their/They're next time I come round to the workshop. I'll bring some biscuits so hopefully I won't get punched in the face )
