Our Sheds, Garages And Workshops (aka Man Cave / Kitchen).

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by AirCon, Jan 3, 2015.

  1. No work benches, not enough power sockets, no task lighting, flammable floor, no bump protection on walls, no storage for tools, no flammables storage, no service drops (CA, n2), no fire extinguishers, no bike lifts, no fume extraction, no espresso machine. Looks like something Ducati Manchester would advocate ;)

  6. Sod off and set up your own thread selling you condensation cough encouraging machines :D
I am poor so unless you offer 100% discount I ain't buying.

  7. Shalom Vince, ay yay yay, if only they were mine to sell. I have more in my head than my pocket.
I'll sell it to you for wholesale. My father said "First mend yourself, and then mend others."
I can offer the whole shmeer for just £1150?

  8. Ha ha, well I was in the garage tonight and I was surprised at the lack of dampness so I will politely decline your generous offer and carry on regardless as I am.

  9. Yellow number board on red bike, not seen that before, more pics please.

  10. Out of interest, what does something like that cost to run including maintenance, servicing, electric, etc? I appreciate it's very dependable on size, wall construction, insulation etc.

  11. I'm working on mine. When it's complete and the bikes are in situ, I'll post a pic or two.

  12. Mines a disgrace compared to them.

  13. Originally got the idea not from 500GP but from AMA in the states where they run with yellow boards for a while in the early mid 90's. much like BSB ran yellow on non-factory teams/evo or whatever. Also it's nice to not be like every other 916 style bike with the statutory white. Allways easy to spot my bike.
Ok but another pic inside the garage/house LOL

  14. Doesn't have to be posh, i used to have an old single concrete sectional garage, rammed with 12 bikes and a racing outfit parked outside. Still it was my domain and it was what was in it that was important to me. As long as it has a roof and is dry, thats all that matters.

  15. Nice idea, would like to see same daylight pics to do it justice.

Is the front board a sticker or a paint job?

  16. IF you want to be comfortable, like sit and read a book or use it as a kids play area, here are the numbers.

    Fixed Cost
An annual service contract starts at around d £100 a year, this includes a complete inspection and chemical clean. The inspection is a manufacturer requirement to allow the factory warranty to extend beyond year one.

Fujitsu ASYG09LMCA 3.2kW (Nominal in Heating) Wall mounted standard unit
This machine is circa 400% effective efficiency, so the maximum energy draw for this unit is 730Watts.
Since the system is inverter driven it would only take that current while bringing the room to temperature. So say you put the system into heating mode and left the doors open the maximum cost would be 0.730kWh x 24hrs x 15p (£cost of electric) £2.63 per day/night cycle. In reality you'd not do that so the cost is normally about one quarter of the maximum, So between 66p or under £5 per week.
Actual real life tests bear this out, however please be aware that as the temperature drops, so does the heating efficiency.

These figures are for a quality system running Dupont R410a refrigerant at 8°c.
At -5°c it may only be 250% efficient.

Note most AC systems only run for circa 200 days per year, as you don't require cooling nor heating for 165 days.

If you want it to just draw out water and not keep the temperature constant, then buy a £200 dehumidifier; you'll save the installation costs and can easily move it from house to house when you move. The numbers for dehumidification would be around £1-2 a week, variable as I'd need much more data to calculate the actual usage.

And I thank you for asking the question.
EDITED TO MAKE CLEAR THE INTENDED USE OF THE DATA PROVIDED

  17. I painted it in about 2000, living and working at the Nurburgring it does get used.

  18. So >£500 per year. Sounds a lot but depends on the value of your bike(s). It's less than my gym membership and slightly more than my mobile and less than sky sports so in the end it's about priorities.

  19. I less I had appreciated assets, in which case I would have them in a Purpose built thing like Exige, its ridiculous to spend £500 just heating a garage

  20. Sorry, you didn't phrase your question clearly.
If you want the figures for "dehumidification only" divide by 4 again.
My numbers assume that you want to keep the room comfortable (sit reading a book) 24 hours a day.
Your numbers assume 365 days a year use.
The system isn't used for around 200 days a year and would switch to an idle monitor mode.
