I did think that you may prefer a newer one with TC etc...Like this one, just around the corner from you: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aprilia-...rentrq:5fcf53bd16d0aad6ed4c425aff9a3a67|iid:1
I've done a lot of research on this also as I rode the RSV4 (RF 2017 Euro 4) versus the R1 (2017) back to back on a test ride, and loved both but the Aprilia weirdly had a few things that were annoying for road use but wouldn't matter on track.... 1) Seat height, ignoring what the spec says, I nearly dropped it because the seat is wide across the front, unlike the Pani, so I stopped at a section of road where the right had side had a pot hole and went to put my foot down and my thigh was too far over and I nearly went. I'm 6ft and have never even 'nearly' dropped a bike. It wouldn't put me off but goes to explain the variation in comments about seat height. 2) I noticed an uncomfortable amount of heat around the handlebars in traffic, as soon as the fan comes on it gets blown up over your hands which isn't nice. Unlikely to be an issue for track. 3) The turning is insane, best road handling bike I've ridden bar none, and felt like a 250 (I know everyone says that but it's true). 4) Euro 4 models have stupid exhausts, that one min sound silent, the next are really loud and seems to be at odd intervals. It gets annoying. I would personally try to get a RF model, a 2015, as it seems to be the best in terms of having the updated stronger cam chains and better oil pump (to avoid oil starvation). If you can't stretch to this then try to get a 2013/14 with the M50 brakes as apart from marginally better brakes, they also had engine updates and I think from memory a bigger fuel tank (I could be wrong). BTW, You'll notice pricing is all over the place with RSV4's, some dealers wanting as much for Used RF's as other dealers ask for new ones! One of the reasons I didn't buy one is because I couldn't figure out what they were worth...
Regarding the Ducs, the 1199 is hard work on the road and great on track. The 1299 is much more refined for road use at road speeds, and better on track.
I’d still get the prilla as was previously said on here in another thread that your not special anymore on a Ducati (hurt my feelings and made me sell my pani) lol Prilla would be easier to go fast on I reckon as well as the big twins are hard work like Ronnie and reggie
The BMW is a horrible to thing to look at as a road bike. I had a ride if one though and I much preferred it to the Aprilia. But everyone is different. If I remember correctly the electronics are a bit more sophisticated on the 1299. I never owned an 1199 so I don’t really know.
Thanks for taking the time to type all that. I'm having a similar issue trying to work out the patterns in the pricing of the various models. I am leaning back towards the Pani tbh, because it seems that to get the Aprilla I want (APRC, M50 brakes and the lighter weight version), I'd need to be looking for a 2015 model and they're £12k ish (though there's one on the Bay of E for £10k....) and that is 1299 money. Just seen this on YouTube which causes even more confusion because they unanimously placed the Aprilla last, though they said they're talking about very small margins:
And because it had squirrel fur on it that had recently been shaved ps remind you of anyone? pps if it’s you I’m glad you’re back
Apropos* of nothing in particular - I’ve just realised “Panigale” is an anagram of “Anal ePig”. * it's Latin. You ought to have a basic grasp of Latin if you're on a Ducati forum (Alan Partridge reference)
I think a panigale 1299 for £11500 ish would be a good buy if it can be done. I’ve ridden the 1199 and it was fun but a little too peaky, my understanding is the 1299 is altogether a better bike, including slightly more sensible geometry to calm the speed ‘weave’ down and increase stability. I would have the Aprilias engine in a 1299 chassis if I could, would be the perfect bike but unfortunately doesn’t exist. Please don’t anyone say panigale v4 as that’s going to remain £16k+ for a while
See that is half the problem. I’ll start off planning to get a scruffy base model track/road bike for £7k but by the time I’ve done my man maths (if I am going to spend £7k, I may as well spend £9k and £9k is not that far off £11k, which is almost £13k and that’s not far off £15k), I’ll probably end up with a Superleggera in a glass box mounted on my living room wall.
