1199 Panigale R Insurance

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Niven770, Jul 25, 2014.

  1. There is nothing that I'm unwilling to learn about and it doesn't hurt to think about the subject one is talking about to try and present a balanced, reasoned and justifiable response.

It doesn't matter how much the replacement parts cost if you aren't going to fall off.

An iPhone costs £500 but you'll still pay £100 a year in phone insurance as it is highly likely to be lost, stolen or damaged. It's got naff all to do with the cost of the phone itself.

A house costs a couple of hundred thousand pounds but the insurance premium doesn't rise to meet the value just as it doesn't drop to meet the value of a £400 car.

  2. of course it does! If a panel is repairable, the insurable risk is far lower than of it disintegrates into pieces

go find yourself a 5k iPhone. gold plated, and see if that costs the same to insure ;0)

  3. It's far easier getting a bike in a van than a 911!
Risk of theft and therefore cost of insurance is far higher when the object you are insuring takes less than a minute to speed away in a Transit by plankton life. (other vans are available).

  4. A 911? you mean a beetle?

  5. OK not done yet but here is an update
    £811 Carole Nash
    £599 Ducati
Bike Wise - No quote or not competitive.
    H&R Insurance waiting on response.
Comments from companies saying it's the value of the bike that's pushing up the cost and they need to refer.
I'll keep going but £599 is quite an improvement.

  6. You mean a beetle sport to be fair!
I was in my colleagues Porsche and he took great delight in showing me a button on the dash which was a 'sport' mode until I explained to him that my Exige didn't have a 'normal' button

To put the this insurance debate into context, when I was insuring some of my bike collection more as equities / or ornaments if you wish, kept in the house in my bike room, the premiums generally equated to around £100 per £10,000 in value - this gives an insight into what the additional risks associated with having any particular bike on the road might equate to I guess. Hope that helps the debate...

  7. OK, lost the will to live on calling round due to every broker needing to "refer" due to the value of the bike and this meant delays and call backs however here is what I found out. Hopefully it may help someone else.

H&R - Didn’t call back with quote as they said they would
Bike Sure - Over £700 but no final confirmation as I already had better
    Bike Wise - No quote
    Carole Nash - Renewal £811 - I think £1000 excess
    Ducati - £599 Excess £1300
Bennetts - £460 - includes legal, multi bike, Europe £600 excess

    Cheers Davy

  8. Couple of my mates have bespoke sports bike worth over 30k
    They both are with Ebike
The policy pays out an agreed sum in the event of the accident
    Maybe worth a try?

  9. Looks like bennetts is the best bet. Did you try bewiser?

  10. My 1199S was insured through MCE and cost £600 with 7yrs NCB, they couldn't quote for the R (no one could) so I went through Ducati insurance and it cost 1k. If you want your toys you gotta pay the price, and I do live in Central Theftdom (London).

  11. Crap - I called them Bike Wise in list above, it should be Bewiser.

  12. I have no problem paying for my toys, I just don't like to pay more than I have to. The purpose of the post was to try to fast track to a cheap insurer based on others experiences with an "R" model as their value makes them problematic to insurers.
£811 down to £460 is a substantial saving in my book and hopefully the findings will help someone else.

    Regards
    Davy.

  13. I'm the same as you buddy, and always look to get the best deal. Didn't intend to sound patronising, was more a comment to myself having chosen to go the R route I had to pay the piper unfortunately.

  14. That's a shame they couldn't quote you. That's the thing with insurance companies you know people who can get a cracking quote but when you ring up its never the case. it all depends on individual circumstances and whether the insurance company can cater to them. Unfortunately there is no escape of those long repetitive phonecalls to try and get the best deal.

    Great saving though bud :upyeah:

  15. What really annoys me is when they have to refer it after you've been on the phone for at least half an hour and say they'll phone you back but then don't!. This happened to me twice. I have a 1000ss insured with Carole Nash and rung them twice when I was renewing the insurance on my 1199, spent and hour on the phone each time, I was told they'd ring back. Even after I'd complained about them not ringing back the first time, again they still didn't ring back, so I renewed my existing policy with MCE.

  16. These company's salespeople (that you and I, out of our premiums, pay for to sit at a desk for 9hrs a day and give us shit and / or inaccurate quotes that take an hr or more) are generally manned by clueless kids.

It's so inefficient. it winds me through the roof.

For service etc, Ducati Insurance were leagues ahead of anyone else I've tried both in this regard and the completeness of the quote etc. Manned by people who know what they are doing.

For my Panigale, the policies of Bikesure and Bennets contained restrictive (in my opinion rather punitive) conditions. Not insured outside anywhere after 10pm, declarations as to both cat1 mechanical and cat1 immobiliser security (to be used at absolutely all times otherwise your cover is void) not insured after 10pm whilst locked away unless at the home address, not insured whilst parked outside the home address - ie for cleaning etc etc etc.

I'm sure you've done this but check your Bennetts quote closely to make sure it contains none of this or if it does you are happy with it. I live in a quiet area and so there's no reason why those security stipulations for me personally on a standard 1199 should be particularly more onerous than anyone else.

  17. Tom you're wrong there, it's based on both. When I insured the Diavel, as it was over 15K they wanted £500+, some wouldn't even touch me. This was because I'd put the otr price in the quote.

One insurer listened and I insured it for the cost of the bike, which is just under 15K. Most were going off the otr price. Got insurance for £280 in the end.

  18. Only thing that's restrictive is that if my bike is stolen within 500mtrs of my home and it's not been garaged they will not pay out. Other than that it looks great.

    Davy

  19. Hi Niven, try MCE and tell them it's worth 20,000 and you will get it for £365.

  20. That's ok till it goes tits up and they'll only pay out 20k when your bike is actually worth nearer 27k.
