A great day out and briliantly organised by DOCGB, worth the annual subscription just for today alone. There was supposed to be a parade lap of 916/748/996/998s which then morphed into a parade lap of everyone who had a Ducati and wanted to take part. Probably over 100 bikes . Unfortunately, despite everyone being assembled and ready to go out on the track it didn’t happen at the allotted time -just before 11 and was rescheduled to 4.45-5 by which time I and most others had departed . Still the sight of all those Ducs ready to go was worth it.
I also had the pleasure to meet @El Toro who then introduced me to @bettes @Messer another fella called Ian who may or may not be a member here and another fella who is definitely a member here whose name I didn’t catch because a) the Superpole race was on and it was noisy and b) I’m deaf. It was a pleasure to meet you fellas and put a face to a name and, if you’re reading this, my apologies to the one whose name I missed
I didn’t think to suggest a meet up as I went with a non Ducbloke but I think I spotted you in the DOC area looking at that pic of you.
Sorry @Tobytyke and yes, I had a great time. For the past 8+ years, work and life has got in the way of me living my life. Now that’s all changing and I’m back in control (almost)

Today I am taking my Mum to Barton Marina, wherever that is. In her car, not on the bike, I hasten to add. Tomorrow I shall pay a visit to the National Motorcycle Museum in the morning and then head off to Holyhead. If anyone has any suggestions of good routes please let me know. There are some suggestions several posts above but any more are very welcome.

Back on the road today. I think I’ve been bitten by the touring bug. Last time I did a tour was 18 years ago . After being in the saddle Wed, Thurs & Fri of last week I woke up on Sat at 05.20 itching to get out on the road again and a little frustrated I couldn’t but family needs must and that was/is the main point of this little trip. So Sat, Sun and yesterday was mostly spent with family (apart from my little trip to Donington) but today another 6 hrs or more in the saddle.
Yesterday I took my Mum for a day out, Barton Marina on the Trent & Mersey canal, she chose it; she likes it there, and then the National Memorial & Arboretum. If you’ve not been to the latter it’s well worth a visit. Absolutely stunningly beautifully landscaped gardens and memorials but so so sobering as you wonder around reading all the plaques and memorials to those who gave, and continue to give, their lives for freedom and democracy. Having done a stint in the TA myself and narrowly missing out on getting called up for Iraq 1, it brought tears to my eyes. The last picture is the “Shot at Dawn” memorial. Each wooden stake bears a plaque with the name and age of each person shot at dawn in WW1 by their commanding officer & peers for not following a command and summarily being found to be a traitor. Most of them were just 17 or 18 years old. One lad was just 15. He’d lied about his age so he could sign up and go and fight for his country only to get shot by his country. Crazy!
