Perseids meteor shower tonight

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by redsail, Aug 12, 2013.

  1. Is it possible to see this from the southern hemisphere? ie NZ.

  2. Just from Australia. Sorry. :frown:

  3. For real? what a f*ckin jip!!!

  4. Tonight at 22:11, quote high in the sky traveling from west to east. Its bright and as long as its clear you wont miss it.

  5. Very disappointed by the small amount of visible meteorites visible last night despite being on top of the South Downs. Great night for star gazing, Milky way visible, but very few meteorites. Might have another go tonight.

  6. I saw 7 or 8 from the my back garden, I might try to get out of the street light polluted town tonight and have another look.

  7. Spotted some great fireballs last night!

The ISS will come over at 22.12 from West to East, reaching 85° so pretty much overhead, and will be very bright (-3.4 magnitude) so you shouldn't miss it!

  8. Thanks , great website, but I meant the meteor shower :upyeah:

  9. Just be grateful for anything you can see down there Dave:biggrin:

  10. I was hoping for a better show, but I did manage to bag one meteor with the camera.

  11. Some cool shots there. Apparently these were visible over Ireland last night but I was in bed, went for a few swift ones after work :)

  12. Promised my 86 year old Mum she's see her first meteor, went outside but saw nothing. There is just too much ambient light here - it's very disappointing. Back home it would have been a different story. Still, I blame the folks. They spent 20 summers in France in the middle of nowhere up until a few years ago. If they haven't seen meteors by now, more fool them!

  13. around half an hour to go :)

  14. Saw nothing last night, but a mate of mine was looking skywards when he felt something on his boot.

A fox was chewing at the tongue sticking out !

Good job he wasn't in his dressing gown
