  1. Also the DVLA needs a boot up the backside for delays in processing licences.

  3. Nope. I've told you already - you can love and want what is best for your country but also hate the bone-headedness, the xenophobia, the spoiled sense of entitlement/exceptionalism and cowardly unwillingness to take responsibility for poor decisions that have turned the UK into an international laughing stock, which makes up the character of the Govt and a vocal element of the Right in the UK these days.

  4. Well yesterday, I drove from central London back to Devon and I checked 12 fuel stations on the way back and none had diesel.

    Majority along the A303.

What a shit show. I filled up 2 weeks ago in my personal car and now I have zero idea where I can fuel up. I have around 80 miles left in my tank and thank god, I don’t have to go far other than food shopping and 3x local school runs for the week.

My brother messaged me, he’s been ordered to do his HGV licence today as well as 90% of others in his army unit. Which is kind of weird as he’s a Sergeant.

  5. This "issue" developed Saturday, makes me wonder if there is something going on "behind the curtains" that stopped BJ from trying to persuade people on the television not to panic buy fuel?

  6. I've just heard on Kent radio that social media are informing the sheep which petrol stations have tankers on the forecourts etc, also the government have said the numbers queuing today are less than yesterday.Lol: unamused:
Great.....things are moving in the right direction,:punch: let's spend money on number crunching instead of getting the job done.

  7. Unfortunately our PM seems to be very much reactive, rather than proactive when dealing with difficult issues. I'm all for carefully considered actions, but the repeated u-turns and delays before doing what seems obvious to many is extremely frustrating and damaging to us all.

  8. 100% agree...maybe excepting the Covid vaccine orders where he moved a lot quicker than other governments. (although was a risky manoeuvre to place orders without knowing the efficacity)

  9. Tons of petrol and diesel here….

  10. Pumps are busy, no queuing and £30 ration.

  11. Great, I wish somebody would pay for me to get an HGV Licence.

  12. Or the safety

  13. I've had a Cat C+E for years, got it through a previous employer in the course of my duties. Although I am retired I renewed it a few weeks ago just in case things go wrong down the road; why let years of experience and thousands in training costs go to waste for the sake of a hundred quid?

I received an email from that shower of feckless c**ts at the DVLA the other day saying they were awfully busy and it may take months to process! You couldn't make it up. One would have thought that the gaffers there would set up a dedicated unit to expedite renewals, but no, that would require some lateral thinking.

Couple that with the 70 000 odd dormant HGV licenced individuals on their books and you can place the blame at the door of the DVLA, successive governments, the haulage industry, the retail industry and finally the fallout from Brexit for this omni-shambles; drivers have been treated with contempt for a generation and all this is just the sound of pigeons coming home to roost.

The industry needs a root and branch review, wages and salaries need to be upped, working conditions must be improved, training and licencing needs to be improved and streamlined and R&R facilities for drivers need to be put in place, just like they have in Europe. The Government needs to review and relax all the red tape and bureaucracy (not to mention horse choking personal fines for minor transgressions) and reign in the myriad agencies and their strutting little martinets that just LOVE dry shafting drivers at the drop of a hat.

As for the governments plans to "invite" drivers back over the channel to pull our chuckies out the fire? Load of bollox. Who in their right mind will quit a nice job in Europe with better wages and conditions to come here for a few weeks after brexit forced them all out the door with a bad taste of latent rascism still lingering?

AS for getting the Army to do it? I wasn't aware the Army had a huge warehouse of Soldiers with full HGV tickets just waiting to dive into the breach. 19 year old squaddie delivering 30000 litres of petrol for a wheeze? No thanks, recipe for disaster, lower standards for prospective candidates, recipe for disaster. Increased driver hours and reduced rest times for people already working 12 hour shifts? A fatality looking for a locus...

  14. Still…on the upside, the motorways are now easier to navigate without 3 lanes out of 4 being blocked by truck drivers overtaking each other at 49, 50 and 51 mph, respectively ;)

  15. Passed the Sainsbury petrol station at Meadowhall twice today. No queues, and seemingly people getting the fuel they want/need.

  16. I’m selling my Renault 5 if anyone’s interested?
